TikToker Who Asked People to Trust God Instead of Masks Test Positive for COVID-19

If the 20 burgers you’ve ordered in the last four days from McDonald’s haven’t satisfied your circuit breaker hunger, I may have something more satisfying for you: a big bowl of irony.

When someone on the internet spreads information that is clearly untrue, we want nothing more than to see that person eat their words, especially when people’s health is at stake.

Well, it’s happened again, and this time it’s a TikToker.

TikToker Who Asked People to Trust God Instead of Masks Test Positive for COVID-19

Some of you may know TikTok as the place where intelligent individuals go to discuss current affairs in a rational, thoughtful manner.

Reader: No, that’s Reddit

Oh, what’s TikTok again?

Reader: The place where some people lick toilet seats as a challenge.

Oh right.

Well, one Indian TikToker has reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus after suggesting that faith in God was more important than wearing face masks.

The 25-year-old man, known as Sameer King on social media, has more than 75,000 followers on TikTok.

In one of the videos, reportedly shot after the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, King was seen sitting on a bike when someone asked him to wear a mask.

Instead of saying “Why, that’s a brilliant and helpful suggestion, thank you”, he said, “Why trust a piece of cloth? Keep faith in God.”

He later throws the cloth into the air.

Later Contracted Covid-19

But in a twist that everyone saw coming, the TikToker later tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to India Today, officials say the 25-year-old is the first reported Covid-19 case in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. He has not travelled recently.

Authorities at the hospital where he is admitted had to confiscate his mobile phone because he kept posting more videos from the isolation facility.

In one video, which shows King with a face mask pulled up over his forehead, he asks followers to pray for him.

Is he really not going to acknowledge how his advice totally backfired?

King’s condition is reportedly stable.

India currently has 10,541 coronavirus infections, with 358 deaths. The Indian government recently extended its lockdown until 3 May.

Do Not Listen To TikTokers

Now, this may surprise you, but most TikTokers aren’t infectious disease experts.

As previously mentioned, one TikToker started a “Coronavirus Challenge“, where you’re supposed to lick a toilet seat despite the risk of contracting the virus.

To most, licking a toilet seat is clearly not a great idea even when there isn’t a pandemic, but one youth who went ahead with the challenge anyway says he contracted the virus after doing so.

So, if there’s anything to learn from this, it’s that this is not the time to act on our impulses to do crazy or stupid things.

After the Covid-19 pandemic dies down, scientists will resume their research into the brains of TikTokers, to find out what makes them do or say such stupid things.

In the meantime, if someone is giving you advice on TikTok, you should probably ignore it, unless it’s Lawrence Wong.
