After Felicia Teo’s Case, People Now Remember Another Missing Teen Who Was Last Seen in 2002

The 13-year-old mystery of Felicia Teo Wei Ling’s disappearance in 2007 was finally solved a few days ago.

At the time, the 19-year-old had vanished without a trace after visiting a friend’s HDB flat at Marine Terrace.

She was last seen taking a lift with two men, who were believed to be her friends.

Over 200 of Teo’s family and friends searched frantically for her at her favourite hangouts, with some even going as far as Johor Bahru, but they couldn’t find the 19-year-old anywhere.

13 years later, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department uncovered fresh leads in the case after a review, and found that the two men in the lift with her may have murdered her.

The tragic tale has called to mind other such mysterious disappearances, like that of a 14-year-old girl in 2002.

The Mysterious Case of Tina Lin Xinying

On 22 June 2002, Tina Lin Xinying was at her home in Block 462, Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4.

At the time, Tina was a Secondary 2 student at Unity Secondary School.

At around 4pm that day, Tina’s father suggested that she visit her grandfather who lived in Jurong, as he was sick.

Tina called her grandfather to make sure someone was home before she left. Her father was supposed to bring her back home the next day.

But this was the last time Tina would be seen, as she never made it to her grandfather’s place.

Given that she was a young teenager, some may speculate that she ran away, but this is highly unlikely, as she brought no extra money, clothes, or her passport along with her.

Frantic, Tina’s father, Mr Lin, called up relatives and Tina’s friends, but none of them knew where she was, so he lodged a police report.

Father Searched As Far As Thai Border

After printing over 7,000 flyers and circulating them around Singapore, Mr Lin conducted a search across the country, looking for his 14-year-old daughter.

When he couldn’t find her, he headed to areas in Malaysia such as Penang, Ipoh and Sarawak, and even went as far as the Thai border, but was unsuccessful.

He also offered a reward of $30,000 in 2005 for information about her whereabouts, but nothing significant was brought forward.

Received 13 Mysterious Calls From Unknown Caller in 2003

What’s even more bizarre than the circumstances surrounding Tina’s disappearance were the 13 calls Tina’s father received in 2003.

Tina’s grandfather had passed away on 28 Oct that year, and the family posted an obituary.

A few days later, the family received 13 calls from an unknown caller.

They believe this caller was Tina, as her father said he recognised her voice.

However, the caller said she couldn’t reveal any details about her whereabouts, only that is was “very dark”.

This revived hopes that the teenager was still alive and would return home, but this never happened.

When the police traced the calls, they discovered they came from a house in Pasir Ris, and concluded that Tina could not have made those calls.

Moreover, Tina’s father often received prank phone calls, raising suspicions that the 13 mysterious calls were prank calls as well.

Some particularly cold-hearted individuals called to say his daughter had met with an accident.

Just like Felicia Teo’s case, a post by the public crime awareness and prevention page Crime Library Singapore on Facebook renewed interest in Tina’s tale.
