Yes, I know what you’re thinking: another mall in JB? How many malls do Singapore and JB need to build before they realise that these places are just free air-con for us?

But what if I tell you this is by Ikano?

Still going “mehhh”?

Then you’re either not a fan of IKEA or you’ve not makan-ed in IKEA before.

Because if you have, you’d have seen “Ikano” on IKEA’s receipts, which means…

It’s a mall by IKEA.

If that doesn’t excite you, we can’t be friends.

Toppen Shopping Centre, The Mall Made with IKEA is Opening on 13 November 2019

I don’t know if the furniture there are from IKEA, but the name is definitely IKEA-ish: Toppen is a Swedish word for “awesome” or “fabulous”.

But is this mall going to be awesome?

You can tell from my tone that I’m definitely not impartial in my views, but honestly speaking, has IKEA failed anyone before?

No? No.

The 1.1 million sqft mall integrates with IKEA Tebraru and links with AEON Tebrau (both of which are already open), so a one-day trip isn’t going to suffice. Here’s how it looks before it was built…

…and here’s how it looks like beside the iconic IKEA:

Other than having IKEA within it, there’s also a TGV Cinema there, so you can catch all your favourite movies at a discount.

At just 30 minutes’ drive from Singapore, you’d have to wonder: is it really worth going through the causeway jam?

Well, just look at some of the confirmed tenants that you can’t find anywhere else in the world:

Reader Bao: HELLO, idiot, you can find those shops even in a little mall known as West Mall!

Oh, yah…makes sense. It’s because I’ve gone through the list and honestly can’t find any special shops—which is typical of a mall, isn’t it?

Nevertheless, the star of the mall isn’t what you can buy or eat there: it’s what you can do there.

Instagram-Worthy Rooftop

I’ll just let a video do the talking:

Have a yummy meal while watching the sunset? Be damned with the peak hours Causeway jam; I’m dining there.

Malaysia Chabor, together with rapper Joe Flizzow, is also coming out with a MV for the mall.

The mall, just like IKEA, has also played the social media game well, coming out with videos like this:
