Hey, folks, itโ€™s your man Zhi Hao here on the dot, and today heโ€™s bringing some pretty cool news with him.

So if you recall, there was a movie that got our hearts all fluttery whenever we stepped on trains, all the way back in 2016:

Featuring an emotional storyline and a whole horde of World War Z quality zombies, the movie was a box office success, collecting $45m at the international box office and $57m outside South Korea.

Plus, it proved to be a hit with even the critics, scoring an impressive 95% on the Rotten Tomatoes scale.

So naturally, you would kind of expect a sequel to pop up sometime, considering its success and fan market. And it seems that we arenโ€™t about to be disappointed, for South Korean director Yeon Sang-ho has confirmed that heโ€™s working on a sequel to his hit zombie thriller.

But there are just three very major drawbacks, one of which is particularly shocking:

It wonโ€™t be taking place in Busan.

Also, it wonโ€™t be called Train to Busan 2.

Details

Speaking to ScreenDailythe director revealed that the film will share the originalโ€™s โ€œworld viewโ€, and is currently in the process of writing the script, with an aim to commence filming next year.

WIth the Korean working title Bando (which stands for Peninsula, a word which is no less incomprehensible), Yeon clarified that the film wouldnโ€™t exactly be a Train To Busan 2.

โ€œIt is an extension of Train To Busan, after the virus has spread throughout Koreaโ€ฆโ€

Also, hereโ€™s the third drawback.

โ€œBut the characters are not the same,โ€ he continued.

Which means that everyone youโ€™ve grown to love in the first movie wouldnโ€™t be making a return.

โ€œIt shares the same world view and is a zombie action film that deals with the aftermath on the peninsula of what happened in Train To Busan.โ€

So this guy, whom we have in our office, wonโ€™t be kicking zombiesโ€™ asses again.

Thus far, casting and budget details are yet to be confirmed.

โ€œIโ€™m still writing the script, but the scale is rather large since there will be action with something to it,โ€ he said.

Plus, he has no plans for an animated companion piece to the movie this time, ala animation Seoul Station.

โ€œIโ€™m concentrating on this one film right now,โ€ he says.

Different Moniker, Same Thrilling Premise

While Train to Busan was memorable for its emotional setup and its ability to tug at your heartstrings, the movieโ€™s main drawing factor was undoubtedly its whole line-up of calefares:

The A-grade zombies that wouldnโ€™t lose to those maniacs from World War Z.

And while the characters youโ€™ve grown to love and empathise with wouldnโ€™t be making an appearance in this movie (oh where art thou, daughter whose name I canโ€™t remember?), the zombies are all set to return, and in that sense, youโ€™re at least guaranteed a rollercoaster cum popcorn flick.

Plus, with Yeonโ€™s ability to draft heartwarming stories out of nowhere (Iโ€™m looking at the first instalment as reference), I donโ€™t doubt a similarly, if not even more eye-watering, story in Bando. So really, thatโ€™s one flick Iโ€™m pretty much all hyped up for.

Although I do have a pretty interesting premise in mind. Just imagine the cast of Descendants of the Sun in the flick.

Now that would be a blockbuster flick worth its salt.
