To debunk Russian propaganda claiming that he had fled, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had uploaded a video of himself on the city streets at night.
In the short video uploaded online, Zelensky greeted “Good evening” to all watchers before showing that he and various members of the Ukrainian cabinet, which includes Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and advisor Mykhailo Podoliak, were still in Ukraine.
“We are all here. Our military is here, citizens are here,” said Zelensky in the short clip.
The video concluded with Zelensky saying “Slava Ukraini,” which means “Glory to Ukraine.” The phrase was popularized among ethnic Ukrainians during the Ukrainian War of Independence that occurred from 1917 to 1921.
Zelensky On Russian Invasion: “One can’t give up one’s capital”
In another national address given on 26 February, Zelensky said that Ukraine is still fighting on “every front.”
“I have to say frankly that this night will be harder than the day,” said Zelensky as he followed that many Ukrainian cities have since been under fire. These cities include Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donbass.
“Special Attention is on Kyiv. One can’t give up one’s capital.”
Zelensky followed that the country has to hold out for “Ukraine’s destiny is being decided right now.”
The US and Ukrainian officials have said that Russia aims to capture Kyiv and topple the government.
