Unicorn Frap? Who Cares When S’pore Starbucks Baristas Came Up With The Merlion Frap?

So we’ve all heard of the Unicorn Frappuccino drink and cried over how its not made available in Singapore.

Before you continue crying over it, let me raise a question. Think that it would be so easy making it a 100 times a day? Baristas think not.

Backlash of the Unicorn Frappuccino

Given how crazy everyone is over the Unicorn Frappuccino, there has actually been some backlash from the baristas over in the U.S. They posted on Twitter on how stressed out they were.

One barista quoted that he had “never made so many Frappuccinos in my (his) entire life”. Another barista, from Florida, even tweeted that “As a barista, just know that every time you ask me to make this, a part of me dies #unicornfrappuccino.”

See how crazy it is? Furthermore, Buzzfeed journalists who tried the beverage said that it would require “some heavy filtering before hitting the Insta”. What you’ve been seeing on Instagram is presented through many layers of filtering, my dear.

Singapore Version

So what do we do when we can’t even get to taste the Unicorn Frapp that on one hand- looks so pretty, on the other hand- overrated?

Yeap, that’s right. We make our very own version. #originality

Introducing The Merlion Frappuccinno, aka a tropical version of the Unicorn Frappuccino.

Ayy. Not bad, eh?

According to Stomp, Moritz, who has lived in Singapore for seven years, visited the Starbucks outlet at Orchard Point on Apr 21 and said he wanted to “try his luck” in getting the Unicorn drink here.

He requested the baristas to make something that resembles the real deal as much as possible. Although seemingly daunted by the unusual request at first, the baristas decided to give it a shot, with help from his colleagues.

The finished product, which Moritz has dubbed the Merlion Frappuccino, comes in gorgeous sunset shades of orange, pink and purple. Comparing it to the Unicorn Frappuccino, it might even looked better on camera!

According to Moritz, the ingredients, consisting of mango and strawberry, were put together by the three baristas on the spot. Mortiz even went “Wah!” at the first sip. Now if that isn’t a good indication of how good it tastes like, I don’t know what is.

It tasted so good that he even recommended the baristas to sell it. Hey, you never know- you might be able to taste the next Merlion Frapp!

Kudos to the baristas for inventing it. Now that’s some good sport over there.
