Pursuant to section 69, subsection Double Ds, paragraph X of the Partay Election Act, I declare…
Find it familiar? Well, that’s no surprise, seeing how this guy made such an ordinary-sounding chunk of words the best hit of 2011.
Oops, wrong picture.
That’s right; he’s Ah Mee, Yam Ah Mee. Former returning officer, the speaker behind the 2011 Election results and all-around Social Media star.
By the way, I’m not kidding about the last point. He was so popular that Netizens spawned a club mix of his oh-so-sexy voice!
(Incidentally, I would totally dance to that. Oh shake it babe!)
And he has become the “face” of many reputable, best-selling products too.
He has even swapped out half his body for a shot at the formidable Yaminator!
So yeah, he’s been pretty busy lately.
So what’s he up to nowadays?
After leaving the civil service for the private sector to join Sembcorp as managing director in 2013, Yam Ah Mee has all but been gone from our lives.
But guess what? He has returned!
Sorta.
Just yesterday (25 Dec), friendly news media outlet Straits Times uploaded a video onto it’s Facebook platform. And guess who the star of the vid was?
That’s right; it’s none other than our friendly neighbourhood Yamderman, Yam Ah Mee!
In the video, Mr Yam can be seen reiterating the lines that propelled him to stardom in 2011.
He then smiled and explained why he had to do it in such a monotonous manner:
“I have to do it in a totally monotone voice, to ensure a free and a fair election. It’s not only important to be impartial, but seen to be impartial as well.
“You see when I say this, I appear totally expressionless. This is to ensure that I’m seen as totally impartial. It’s actually very difficult for me, because most of the time my friends tell me that I smile most of the time.”
He also acknowledged the many memes that surfaced on the Internet after the 2011 election results:
“I find that it was alright that the social media was making fun of it at the same time, because we must learn to ensure the seriousness of the election is properly conducted, and at the same time we have fun whenever we do as well.”
There was even a bloopers section at the end, where he tries to “practice” his lines.

The 2011 Elections
It’s incredible how fast time flies.
I remember those ‘infamous’ lines almost as if I just heard them yesterday, and yet it’s been a whopping 6 years!
Nevertheless, I’ve gotta admit:
Mr Yam gave us a memory to look back on fondly. And it’s not like he screwed up his job whilst at it too, he did his job well and entertained us at the same time. Ain’t everyday you can say that.
So thank you, Mr Yam.
And please take over the mic at the next election.
Because I’m sure I’m not the only one looking forward to your comeback! 🙂
Since you’re here, why not watch a video about a guy who lodged a Police report here in Singapore because he was friendzoned? Seriously. Here, watch it and do remember to share it (and also subscribe to Goody Feed YouTube channel)!
