If you take a casual scroll through our articles, you’d quickly lose faith in humanity.
It’s not that our writing is that bad, I mean it is, but it’s more about the kind of people we have to write about.
Like that poly student who reportedly trapped a girl in a toilet and molested her.
Or the maid who allegedly placed a toddler’s hand in boiling water just so she could go home.
Thankfully though, there are some humans out there with golden hearts who give us a steady supply of wholesome in a world filled with depravity.
Honest Cinema Cleaner Saves Family’s CNY When He Returned Wallet Containing $800 To Owner
Take this cinema cleaner for instance. When he found a wallet containing $800 in a theatre, he did what many wouldn’t – he returned it.
The owner of the wallet, Ms Huang, was watching a movie at The Cathay Cineplex in Downtown East last Saturday (18 Jan) with her husband and son.
According to MS News, Ms Huang’s husband went to the toilet afterwards, and later realised that he had lost the wallet.
Forget about credit cards and driving licenses, because this particular wallet contained $800.
Be honest, what would you do in this instance?
Apparently, the wallet had so much money because the family were planning to do some CNY shopping.
MS News speculates that the wallet itself looks like it’s from Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta because of its design. If this is true, the wallet might have cost up to S$1000, so this was a double blow.
Ms Huang later reported the loss to the cinema management and lodged a police report. But if I were in her position, I wouldn’t have been too optimistic.
Who is nice enough to return an expensive wallet that contains S$800?
Oh right, this guy.
Cleaner found and returned wallet
A cleaner at the cinema found the wallet and instead of pocketing it like many of our readers people would do, he returned it to management.
Ms Huang was very grateful to the cleaner for returning the wallet and allegedly bought chocolates to thank him.
Unfortunately, she didn’t get to meet the kind soul.
Can we be more like this?
It’s at this point, dear reader, that I have to question your (and my) humanity. Would you do the same thing?
We could all learn a thing or two from this kind man. He could have easily kept the S$800 and bought a few months’ supply of bubble tea, but he chose to return it instead, saving this family’s Chinese New Year.
I’d still keep my belongings safe if I were you, though, because good Samaritans are a dying breed.
