Okay, this might come as a surprise to you.
We were just browsing through the net when we came across an article that shares what exactly HDB will do after getting a report from illegal parking from the public.
And it was pretty interesting.
Stomper Who Stomped Illegally Parked Taxi Called to Testify in Court
Stomper Janet, who reported a case of illegal parking in a disabled lot in Jurong to HDB, was notified that she had to testify in court.
She was surprised and decided to inform STOMP about the incident. STOMP immediately sent a query to HDB, asking whether this is normal for reports made about errant drivers.
A spokesperson from HDB responded and it was enlightening, to say the least.
This is Normal; It’s a Legal Requirement
HDB takes a serious stance against errant drivers and carries out regular enforcement actions in HDB estates.
Whenever a report is filed with them, they’ll send enforcement officers down to check the area for said vehicle.
Errant drivers will be issued a parking offence notice, and repeated offenders can be fined up to $2,000 depending on the severity of the offence.
However, if the checks are done after the vehicles have been moved, HDB can only proceed to carry out enforcement actions if the person who made the report is willing to testify in court.
In case the motorist in question decides to bring it to court, that is.
Members of the public who comes across illegally parked vehicles at HDB carparks can contact the HDB Car Park Enforcement Hotline at 1800-2721409.
Better To Take Some Pictures Or Videos
A commenter has also advised that it’s better to take some hard evidence, for example, a picture or a video of the illegally parked vehicle.
If not, it’ll just be your words against theirs.
Now you know that this type of thing can go court one, better don’t anyhow go report. Make sure it’s true hor.
