Lest you’re unaware, ‘flying’ across the road to beat the red light is a really, really bad idea.
Sure, on one hand it could certainly get you across in the nick of time, thereby saving precious seconds which could be better spent elsewhere. But on the other hand?
You risk flying right into other cars, in a scenario that can only be described as a case of bumper cars gone wrong.
White Honda ‘Flew’ Across the Road to Beat the Red Light; Ended Up Crashing Into 2 Other Cars
On 8 April 2021, Facebook page ROADS.sg posted a 29-second clip on the social media platform, alongside the accompanying caption:
Disapproval
To date, the post has garnered over 266 reactions and 158 shares.
Netizens have also expressed their displeasure over the incident, with some wondering whether the driver had been on his/her phone.
Another dismissed the whole ‘right of way’ argument, and stated that the driver may have been dreaming.
Others were thankful that the collision had not involved the two incoming pedestrians on the left.
While one noted that rather than beating the red light, the scenario was more of “running a red light”.
And with the whole ‘car owners vs cyclists’ debate still raging on, Netizens have deemed fit to add in a few cyclist-related references.
Running The Red Light
Unfortunately, such instances have been rather prevalent of late.
As recently as 30 March 2021, a drunk man was caught running a red light on Paya Lebar Road at about 10:55 pm, driving towards its upper section.
According to the police, traffic police witnessed the man doing so and signalled for him to stop so they could check – but he sped off instead.
The goose chase then ensued all the way until Haig Road, which was about three kilometres away.
And on 12 March 2021, a woman was almost knocked down by a driver beating the red light.
In a video, a white car can be seen beating the red light at a pedestrian crossing. A woman was crossing the road at the time.
As it was raining, the woman was covering her face and looking in the other direction. The car then sped past her, missing her only by a hair’s breadth.
And on 31 March 2021, a grey Mercedes was caught racing across the junction even thought the traffic light was red.
Just as the car accelerated across the junction, the traffic light for the perpendicular lanes turned green, and vehicles on both sides started to move.
Consequently, a biker on one lane smashed into the grey Mercedes just before the Mercedes reached the other side.
Be careful when you’re on the road. You never know when an errant driver’s out there, just waiting to beat the red light.
