You’d have learnt as a kid that lying is bad.
It’s even worse if your lie has serious repercussions on society, just like this Chinese couple who thought that it’d be a good idea to lie to MOH officials about their whereabouts after one of them was confirmed to have caught the COVID-19 virus while the other was served a quarantine order.
But they are still a couple?
The answers might be out on 20 March 2020, but one thing’s for sure: something fishy is going on with this couple.
Couple Who Lied About Their Whereabouts
By now, you’d have known about Mr Hu Jun and Ms Shi Sha.
Hu Jun had arrived in Singapore from Wuhan on 22 January 2020, and had his symptoms on the next day. He claimed that he had stayed in Loft @ Nathan, a rather atas condominium located near River Valley Road, from the day he has arrived to Singapore to the day when he was tested positive.
But why had he stayed in a condominium instead of a hotel if he had come to Singapore with a visitor’s visa? After all, Airbnb is technically not legal here.
Well, his wife, Shi Sha, stays there.
It’s unknown if his wife works or studies in Singapore, but having a residence here in Singapore means she has a long-term pass in our sunny island.
Nothing’s wrong with that; except for what she did after her husband was tested positive for COVID-19.
For a start, Hu Jun had claimed that through his stay in Singapore, he only had dinner at Ion Orchard on one day and took a walk around the neighbourhood at 31 Nathan Road in River Valley. That is allegedly fake information; it’s unknown where he had been so far.
But what’s interesting is his wife’s whereabouts.
Once Hu Jun technically became Case 16, his wife was served an isolation order since she’s considered a close contact with Hu Jun—after all, she would have stayed with him under the same roof for days!
For her, she just needed to be quarantined in the same place from 31 January to 12 February since Hu Jun was then already isolated in Singapore General Hospital.
Except she didn’t…but still said she did.
Wife Allegedly Left Her Quarantine Place to Stay in a Hotel
According to the charge sheets shown yesterday in court, Shi Sha instead went off to stay in a hotel instead.
The hotel name is not revealed.
What’s the secrecy here seh?
And because she needed to provide details of her movement, she even lied to MOH, saying that she had taken a taxi from the condominium unit to SGH, when she had obviously gone to the hospital from the unnamed hotel.
Simi sai, right?
Why would she want to stay in a hotel when she could have isolated herself in her own place? Or if she, for some reason, didn’t want to stay there, she could have opted for the Government’s quarantine facilities, which includes chalets and hostels.

The couple would be back in court on 20 March 2020.
Interestingly enough, yesterday (28 February 2020), the couple had gone to court separately and wasn’t seen together.
They’re both wearing sunglasses and masks to cover their face, though it’s quite easy to know how Shi Sha looks like just by Googling for her image:
No? But she did smoke the authorities mah.
If convicted of the charges, each of them would face penalties of up to six months’ jail, a maximum S$10,000 fine, or both, per charge.
