In case you’ve been living under a rock, Huawei isn’t having a good time right now.
Or, at least, their staff isn’t.
Because the widely covered National Day Promo that Huawei put out this year has caused infinite distress among Singaporeans.
And this elderly lady couldn’t take the heartbreak.
All in all, not a good day for Huawei.
But it’s not just Huawei having a bad day.
This lady who caused a ruckus at Huawei Jem is probably regretting ever hearing about the promotion too.
Woman Caused A Scene At Huawei Jem
According to reports, a 53-year-old woman decided to “bang table” after failing to get her hands on a $54 phone herself.
After the staff informed her that she is unable to get a ticket to get the phone, she made a fuss within the shop.
When she was politely asked to leave the premises, she (unsurprisingly) refused.
Arrested
Having no other choice, the men in blue were called.
And in spite of their prowess, the woman decided their requests weren’t worth complying with too.
She was eventually arrested for criminal trespass and the incident is undergoing investigation.
The police have been activated to various Huawei stores due to the angry crowds.
Thankfully, no physical violence has been reported yet.
Huawei Forced To Close Stores Early
Now, for those who think Huawei’s the only ones to benefit from this scene of chaos, they’ve been hurt too.
Everybody knows that closing a business for a day can rack up pretty huge losses.
You’re not making money for that day but you’d still have to pay for the rental, wages and other fixed overheads.
Yesterday, Huawei was forced to close not one, not three, but ten Huawei outlets in Singapore.
At 12.20 pm, just a few hours after opening, the following outlets were closed for the day:
- Tampines Mall (4 Tampines Central 5, #04-03)
- Bugis Junction (200 Victoria Street, #1-54/54A)
- Lot 1 (21 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 4 #B1-01A)
- Jurong Point (1 Jurong West Central 2, #B1-31)
- 313@Somerset (313 Orchard Road #B2-12)
- Westgate (3 Gateway Dr, #03-38/39)
- Vivo (1 Harbourfront Walk, #02-204)
- NEX (23 Serangoon Central #04-43)
- JEM (50 Jurong Gateway Rd #04-04)
- Northpoint (930 Yishun Avenue 2 #B1-128)
For “security” purposes, you see.
Moral of the Story:
- Don’t oversell your promotion
- If you only have twenty sets, state it early.
- Do not say “each customer is limited to two handsets” because Singaporeans cannot imagine a promotion catering to only ten customers.
- Don’t sponsor promotional materials for such limited quantities.
- Huawei’s salespeople deserve a raise: they smile even when getting cursed out by an angry crowd.
