Nowadays, someone or something is always watching you. Yes, Google, I know you’re watching my poop cycle and please stop recommending the ultra-soft 3 ply toilet paper.

And for those who have done something wrong, just know that someone will find out.

You’re being watched.

Like this anonymous female Taiwanese netizen who shared her story of catching her friend’s cheating boyfriend using a fitness tracker.

Bestie’s boyfriend of 7 years went for a business trip

Let’s call the original poster Anon. This was posted on 13th July.

Anon had a bestie, who was a classmate with her in primary and secondary school. Let’s call her Tia.

In the original post, Tia is annotated using a crying emoji 😭, her (ex)boyfriend a poop emoji 💩, and the third party a devil emoji 😈.

Tia was classmates with her (now ex-)boyfriend in some Community High School in the south and went to university together in the north. They dated for seven years and lived together for three years. After graduating, they stayed in the north to work. We will call the boyfriend POS.

In April, POS was allocated to the south for a business trip for a month. It is then Tia notice POS started being a little indifferent towards her. He would ignore her message for 2 to 3 hours, hang up calls after slightly more than 10 minutes by pretending to be in a rush.

At the start, Tia thought the job kept him busy, but the situation didn’t get much better for three weeks. Anon advised Tia to talk to POS about their distancing relationship.

On the phone, POS seemingly avoided questions and would reassure Tia that nothing is going on.

Tia believed him.

Discovery of a possible third party

After the trip, POS came back to the north. Tia noticed POS’s Line messaging log where he flirted with another girl, who we shall call Deb. Tia took his phone and quarrelled with POS, but he denied everything and talked about the invasion of privacy.

POS then pointed to the time Tia had an affair with a senior in Uni. (Anon clarifies this as a misunderstanding in the post.)

Tia was very upset but thought that maybe she just misunderstood. So she forgave him. But POS didn’t accept her apology and thought Tia didn’t trust him.

This resulted in a cold war.

Tia would call Anon every day to talk about her woes, though Anon could offer nothing except comfort her.

But Tia’s relationship didn’t get any better.

Until…

June, a damning encounter with POS

POS was once again posted to the south for business. Near her house, Anon saw POS with an unknown girl at Starbucks. They seemed very close, and Anon quickly snapped a picture to send Tia.

Tia confronted POS with this new proof, to be met with denial.

With newfound proof, Tia decided to take a few days’ leave to investigate this herself. Anon decides to accompany her.

According to Anon, they resorted to physical tracking because Tia and POS’s phones weren’t Apple phones, and neither did either of them download a location app.

They waited near POS’s office and managed to find Deb’s address, as POS and Deb waved each other goodbye below Deb’s house.

Naturally, Tia felt impulsed to confront POS at this moment, but Anon stopped her because there wasn’t definitive proof and POS might just say that he is being friendly.

Anon told Tia to hold back and go back to work first. For the next few days, while Tia was back at work, Anon would monitor Deb’s house, but she never saw POS. Anon also needed to work and started cracking her brain. Which is then, she had an epiphany.

A genius detective on the move

Tia and POS both have a Xiaomi mi band, and the fitness tracker has an app where you can track your own and your friends’ health status. This is the picture Anon left on the forum for illustration only. It does not show the actual movements of POS.

From the app, we can know the number of steps every day and what time someone sleeps and wake up.

Monitoring POS’s stats, Anon discovered his sleep to be very regular, but after a few days, he would only sleep after 12. And after this sleep, he would actually wake up earlier. Deb’s house is far away from POS’s office.

Connecting the dots, Anon then deduced POS would meet with Deb every four days, and they would usually meet at Deb’s house on Fridays to Sundays. On other days, they would go to a hotel near POS’s house.

Anon immediately planned to catch them with Tia, set on 6 July, to wait in front of Deb’s house.

As predicted, POS appeared and went into Deb’s apartment. Tia broke into tears here. Anon knew that Tia valued the relationship with POS, and was always her happiest when talking about their relationship.

Tia cried the whole night, while Anon consoled her and talked about if she still wants to continue the operation. If she wanted to break up on the spot, Anon would be a mediator and confront POS. (In her mind, the plan was for Anon to pretend to be the landlord asking for rent.)

The next morning, POS held unto Deb’s waist while buying breakfast. All the evidence they needed.

Tia later broke up with POS.

But not all solved crimes end well… Anon mentioned that her operation revealing the truth in raw may have hurt Tia more than she wanted. Sometimes, it is better to hide the truth for the sake of others.

Anon still has to call Tia for 3 to 4 hours daily to make sure she is feeling fine after everything.

So, boys and girls, remember: you can run, but you can’t hide.
