If you used to have the irrational fear of falling onto the train tracks when you were younger, you’re not alone.
But most of us probably can’t say that we’ve actually fallen through the train doors onto the train tracks.
Unless you’re this woman who fell onto the tracks while commuting on a Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) train.
Woman Fell Off KTM Train at Woodlands Train Checkpoint
According to responses that the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) gave to the media, the woman was at Woodlands Train Checkpoint at around 5.35 am on Wednesday (5 July) when the incident happened.
The spokesperson from ICA further explained that she had fallen into the gap between the train and the platform after tripping.
As a result, she sustained injuries on her knee and left elbow.
At that point in time, there happened to be an ICA officer who was on duty and witnessed what happened.
The officer, who was there to conduct checks on the train, managed to pull the woman up to safety.
Multiple other travellers helped to pull her up as well.
After the incident, the woman was taken to hospital while conscious.
Netizen Claimed that Woman Tried to Beat the Queue at the Checkpoint by Alighting the Train Before it Stopped
After the incident, Facebook user Erene Hew posted about the incident in a Facebook group for Malaysians working in Singapore.
In her post, she wrote that the woman had tried to beat the queue at the checkpoint by getting ahead of other passengers.
Apparently, she had alighted the train before it came to a total stop.
She also explained that some commuters tend to stand near the exits of the trains to try and get to the checkpoints as quickly as possible.
Well, maybe this is the sign to tell your mother to stop being so kiasu when she’s on the train.
ICA to Contact Train Operator About Installing Doors
And if you’re wondering how that’s possible, the ICA spokesperson explained in ICA’s response that the KTM train is designed so that passengers can open the doors when they are inside the carriage.
This will allow them to get off the train before it stops completely.
With regards to this, she highlighted that ICA will be getting in contact with the KTM train’s operator to install the necessary safeguards at the platform.
ICA also took the opportunity to remind commuters to only disembark trains after they come to a complete halt.
