Ever heard gunshots in the middle of the night while you were asleep?
Yes, anyone who’s served in the army would know how that feels.
As it turns out, car backfiring noises have been pretty prevalent in the Yishun area of late, so much so that Netizens have actually denounced it online.

“But I don’t live in Yishun eh,” said Reader Diam. “I live at good ol’ Changi. How do you explain the shotgun bangs going around in my area?”
Well, in response to Reader Diam’s kind query…
I would highly advise you to get a talisman and run for it, now.
Cars Allegedly Make ‘Explosive’ Sounds Every Saturday Night After Leaving Yishun Petrol Station
According to Facebook user Beverly Morata Grafton, explosive noises that sound like gunshots have been heard every weekend night since mid-April.
The cause is believed to be the backfiring engines of multiple cars, which frequent the same petrol station.
In the post, Beverly detailed how exhausts have been popping off like gunshots every weekend from 10:30 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. plus in the morning without fail.
She also questioned why the cars continue to visit the same petrol station, and suggested that the vehicles have been partaking in underground street races.

Netizens Voice Out
Following Beverly’s online rant, Netizens turned up in droves to air their support and offer advice on what to do.
Some, for instance, asked Beverly to call the cops.
While others indirectly agreed with her sentiment that the owners of the cars have been pulling a gimmick out of the Fast and Furious franchise.
Two things seem to have been the consensus though, with the first being that Beverly wasn’t alone in her troubles…

And the second entailing that it’s just Yishun being Yishun.
Backfire
While it’s not confirmed whether the source of the explosive noises is indeed backfire, it’s strongly implied to be so.
The explosive noises that sound like gunshots will certainly resonate with the shotgun bangs routinely emitted by backfiring vehicles, though a case can be made that instead of a natural fault in the system, the vehicles might have been modded to create such ‘race-like sounds’.

While it’s one thing to go about a race in your own free time, it’s quite another to wake an entire neighbourhood and disrupt their well-deserved rest.

As such, we hope that the authorities will step in soon and end this ‘gun-banging’ nightmare in its entirety.
P.s. Why am I not surprised that it happened in Yishun though?
Though Yishun is actually not that bad. Watch this video and you might want to visit it after Phase One:
