Yishun’s high-tech hawker centre by Timbre + opened last week at Yishun Avenue 11, with its cool cashless payment services and hipster fare.
And everyone in Singapore was looking forward to it.
But guess what? It has already started receiving complaints!
Yes, in less than a week.
Reported by Today newspaper, Yishunites aren’t a big fan of the cashless services. It’s not that surprising to me, given that it is the heartlands, where there are a lot of old folks.
There were also glitches in the cashless system on its opening day.
To add on, there is only one drink stall in the entire place (there are 43 stalls btw) and it is located at the very end.
Imagine the bloodbath during lunch hour.
The most confusing thing for the patrons has to be the tray return system.
The tray return system is when you return your plates and utensils with the tray at the return point, you will get your 1 dollar deposit back (the one dollar is added to your bill when you make a food purchase).
Some patrons are confused to why they have to pay the extra one dollar, though they can request to opt out of it by not having a tray.
While this initiative aims to reduce the cleaner’s workload, it seemed to have a reverse effect.
Since the return point is at the end of the food court, diners seem to find an easier way to get their deposit back.
Instead of placing their utensils on the tray and returning it like a dutiful diner, they simply just return the tray alone.
And left the dirty utensils on the table for cleaners to clean. Legit.
I mean I am not praising their acts, but it is smart. You get your deposit back and you don’t have to carry a tray filled with plates and bowls to one corner.
Come on, guys, things will get better.
Timbre + is already planning to introduce a second tray return point by next month.
So we don’t have an excuse to not return the trays WITH ALL OUR UTENSILS.
I mean it is easy to blame the Yishunites but come on, I am sure residents from all over Singapore are coming in to try the food.
I mean who doesn’t want this cute Japanese bento?
