It seems like we’ve been getting news of young people doing silly things weekly now. Apparently, they’re taking being “young, wild and free” a bit too seriously now.

Recently, two youngsters were seen fishing outside the ArtScience Museum in Marina Bay Sands.

We’re guessing they got bored of the designated places for fishing and decided to do an interesting twist of things here.

What Really Happened

A Stomper named Pavel spotted the pair fishing on 2 April at around 5:12 pm.

He alerted the museum staff at the information desk that people were fishing behind the museum.

He said the staff knew about it and called the act “absurd.”

They had called security, but the two boys allegedly rode off on their bicycles before they could get caught.

The Stomper said that the boys caught between five to eight goldfish.

The Potential Consequences

There are designated areas for fishing around Singapore. These include reservoirs, canals such as Rochor Canal and Pang Sua Canal and other water sources like Jurong Lake.

There is quite a sizable number of 15 places to do your fishing, and you are also allowed to fish in the waters around Singapore.

If you do not fish in the designated areas, you can be fined up to $3,000.

Cases of Illegal Fishing

In September last year, a young man was caught illegally fishing at MacRitchie Reservoir on tape.

The best part was that he wasn’t just breaking the rules but also performing a free circus act for all to see by forcefully throwing the fish back into the waters.

The poor fish fell victim to one of the many silly acts done by teenagers in Singapore just to gain clout.

The video was uploaded on Instagram, but the man was criticised in the comments for his treatment of the fish.

He was later investigated by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) for his offences.
