If you watch Channel 8 drama, you’d know Zhang Yaodong.
The veteran actor has been acting since 2001, after finishing as the first runner-up in the Malaysian edition of the talent-search contest Star Search. Prior to this, he worked as a model and appeared in various commercials in Malaysia. His television debut was in the sixth season of the popular sitcom Don’t Worry, Be Happy.
But beyond that, we didn’t know much about his personal life.
Until now.
Actor Zhang Yaodong Suddenly Revealed He Has 2 Daughters
Singapore-based Malaysian actor Zhang Yaodong has surprised fans by revealing that he is a father of two daughters.
After over two decades of keeping his personal life tightly under wraps, the 46-year-old actor shared his news on 9 November, marking the first time he publicly acknowledged his children.
The revelation came via an Instagram post accompanied by a photo of the girls, dressed in traditional Korean hanboks with their backs to the camera, in Seoul, South Korea.

Zhang expressed regret for missing out on his daughters’ childhood, saying he had been absent from their early years “for various reasons.”
Though he has not disclosed the girls’ ages or the identity of their mother, he shared his commitment to be a more present father going forward.
“From now on, I will be by their side in every moment of their growth and witness their every step,” Zhang wrote in Chinese, pledging never to miss another important moment in their lives.
Several local celebrities, including Dennis Chew, Yao Wenlong, Zhu Houren, Angela Ang, and Chen Xiuhuan, showed their support, leaving heart emojis and messages of encouragement on his post.
In contrast, some netizens questioned Zhang about his relationship status and family life, asking if he is married and seeking clarity on his daughters’ parentage.
Zhang, who is currently in South Korea for both work and leisure, took part in a live-streaming session with Malaysian influencer Rainbow Sister shortly after sharing his Instagram post.
The duo has been live streaming together daily since the beginning of November, with fans tuning in to see Zhang in a different light following his unexpected announcement.
This public admission comes amidst a series of social media rumors.
Social Media Rumours Five Months Ago
Earlier this year, in June, a woman posted on Xiaohongshu about Zhang, including a photo of someone resembling him in bed. She hinted at having additional evidence to expose.
In a 14 July post, the woman claimed that she met Zhang at a 2019 event, followed by a club visit where she claims he forced her to drink alcohol and had non-consensual sex with her while she was intoxicated. She later explained her lack of police report stemmed from her non-Malaysian/Singaporean status.
The woman shared additional photos allegedly of Zhang on 18 July, but all posts have since been removed from the platform. Mediacorp issued a statement on 5 July stating they could not comment on artists’ personal matters.
Zhang’s role in Mediacorp’s Emerald Hill was then reassigned to Elvin Ng. While speculation linked this change to the scandal, Mediacorp attributed it to scheduling conflicts.
Zhang has since filed a police report and consulted legal counsel following the allegations against him.
