Zoe Tay’s Makeup Artist’s Tips On Looking Younger Are Actually Not That Difficult

“You don’t look your age” can go both ways. It can be good, or it can be bad.

Very. Bad.

Some of us want to look older, especially if you’re trying to sneak into that R21 show. Naturally, though, we all grow into the phase where we want to look younger. Like, literally grow.

Timeline of events:

Age 21: Yay! *Invites everyone to my birthday party*

Age 22: Taylor Swift: I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling 22!

Age 23: Okay.

Age 24: Wait, what, I’m an adult?

Age 25: Please make it stop.

You get the drift. Don’t worry though, us girls have a defence tactic we can whip out to take years off our faces – makeup.

But before that:

Who Is Zoe Tay?

I don’t know why you’d need this information, but anyways here goes: She’s a 51-year-old Singaporean actress who began modelling at a tender age of 16 years old. She has also worked as an actress for Mediacorp in notable television shows like Pretty Faces, which brought her to fame.

It’s not just TV shows though, she’s starred in films like Love Cuts (2010) and Mister John (2013). And get this: because of her contributions, she even has a wax figurine at Madame Tussauds Singapore.

Her Makeup Artist’s Tips

Is she drinking a youth elixir? Nope. It’s just awesome makeup skills. That’s right, and her makeup artist Peter Khor is here to reveal just how you can get the look.

1. Invest in a good skincare regime

For starters, your skin is the base for your makeup. He tells Channel NewsAsia Lifestyle, “When skin looks healthy, you don’t need to rely on makeup.”

Some of us have troubled skin though, and if you need some coverage, “consider lighter formulas like a tinted moisturiser or a BB cushion with SPF.”

2. Rub lipstick on your cheeks

Most of us might be acquainted with the use of lipstick, you know, on your lips. Her makeup artist, however, believes that rubbing lipstick on your cheek, no matter the colour, will give you a “natural glow.”

Just apply it on the apples of your cheeks before blending it out towards your temples.

3. Lit Brows

Her makeup artist tells Channel NewsAsia Lifestyle, “Fill gaps in the brow with powder as defined brows that are thicker and bushier have a knack of making you look younger.”

He also suggests using a shade lighter than your hair colour. You can also add some highlighter under the brow to make the eyebrow arch more obvious.

4. Open up your eyes with eyeliner

Some of us might be tempted to skip the eyeliner, especially when we’re rushing for work. Here’s a tip: don’t. Eyeliner can make the eyes appear larger – just make sure to rub out and ‘blur’ the winged tips so that the attention is on your eyes and not on the eyeliner.

5. Make your lips appear fuller with lip gloss

Her makeup artist tells Channel NewsAsia Lifestyle: “Plump them up by lining the lips with a lip liner to define the borders. Then top up with a pretty pink or berry lipstick for everyday wear. Add an extra dimension to the pout with a layer of lip gloss.”

So there you have it, our magical youth elixir: makeup.
