Not every soldier in the Army is a “siao-on” soldier as Pierre Png has demonstrated in the newest Channel 8 TV drama, When Duty Calls.

A returning reservist soldier from Australia, Pierre met with a series of issues during his ICT, including his quarrels with his OC. His reactions are possibly also well anticipated by the guys who are familiar with such issues.

Knowing his character in a TV drama is perhaps not as dramatic as knowing the real Pierre Png, so for those of you who are fans, here’s 10 facts about Pierre Png!

He used to be a bully in his younger days
Pierre revealed in a sharing session at a camp held by the Streetwise Programme that he was a bully in his younger days. He shared that getting in fights and teasing girls were part of his daily activities.

He is an ex-St Gabriel’s kid
Pierre received his primary school education at St Gabriel’s Primary School and attended Holy Innocents’ High School for his secondary school education.

He has tons of acting experiences
Pierre started his acting career in 1997 as Phua Chu Beng, the submissive little brother of our beloved contractor, Phua Chu Kang. Since then, he has been involved with many other TV dramas, telemovies, and films. Some of these includes Growing Up, The Shining Star, The Little Nyonya, The Gentlemen and of course, the most recent, When Duty Calls.

He was nominated as Best Actor for 6 years in the Star Awards
Pierre was nominated as Best Actor for 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2017. That’s a lot of nominations!  He won in 2014 for his role in The Journey: A Voyage.

He was nominated 8 times as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes
Pierre was nominated as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes from 2009 to 2013 and from 2015 to 2017. He won in 2012, likely due to his roles in 3 popular TV dramas – Rescue 995, Pillow Talk and Beyond.

He is well-known in the region
Pierre is not only known in Singapore, but he is also well-known for his acting skills in the region. He won a total of 4 awards in the Asian Television Awards – Best Actor 2014 and 2015; Best Supporting Actor in 2013 and 2016.

He is heading for Hollywood
Pierre has joined the cast of the Warner Bros. Crazy Rich Asians in April this year. This film will be his Hollywood feature film debut! He will be acting alongside Constance Wu and Fiona Xie.

He fell in love with ballet after his role as a ballet teacher in The Gentlemen
Pierre was casted as a ballet teacher in The Gentlemen and had to take ballet lessons to learn how to dance for his part. He took lessons once or twice a week for an hour each time. After the production was completed, Pierre decided to continue with the lessons at his leisure because he has fell in love with the “precision and beauty of ballet.”

He has issues with his thighs while filming The Gentlemen
Pierre was required to wear white tights for his role as the ballet teacher in the drama, and he was self-conscious about his thighs during filming. The only time that he forgot about them was during the times when he has to film dance scenes because he was too busy trying to remember the dance routine and choreography!

He is one of the male leads in the latest drama “When Duty Calls” with some pressure
As one of the three male leads in the latest drama, Pierre has the pressure to perform, especially when his role is that of an unwilling soldier that is likely to resonate with many Singaporean men.
