We all hate children who have a strong sense of entitlement, but have you ever wondered what caused them to be such a nuisance?

Two days ago, Stomp reported a case of how a parent had allegedly scolded a driver who honked at her kids when they were playing in the car park. As a driver, I do know exactly how annoying it can be when people walk across a car park as if they own the road, and sometimes, when bicycles or children appear out of nowhere, I do honk so that they’ll be more mindful of their surroundings—and most of them usually wave an apology before moving off.

In a video taken by a third party, which highlights the impartiality of the event, two women were aggressively scolding the driver. If this is taken by one of the parties involved, it could have been a one-sided story with a name-and-shame objective, but the commentary by the third party proves otherwise.

Here’s roughly what the video-taker says about the incident in the video:

“The mother is wrong…They’re filming each other…Put in Stomp…This mother didn’t take care of her kids…The mother is so fierce…she’s at fault…”

In the Stomp article, she mentioned that the driver was in his early 20s and scolded the women for letting their children play dangerously in the car park. One of them even hit the man’s phone away when he tried to take a video.

Here’s the takeaway: what would have happened if this occurred in the 1990s? I’m pretty sure the parents will take the children to one side and use whatever is available to hit them. It was then common to see kids crying in public, and parents abandoning them for a while before coming back for them.

But now? The parents protect the kids even though the entire world knows they’re wrong. This could be just one of the many instances when the parents overprotect their kids so much that they’ll eventually grow up to be strawberries or durians. I’m not judging. I’m definitely not judging.
