Man Tries New Way to Cheat Breathalyzer Test By Eating Grass

This world is full of people who would do incredibly stupid things to get out of trouble, when the easiest thing to do was to not make the mistake that gets one into trouble.

In this shining example of human ingenuity, a Chinese man decided the best way to avoid being charged for drunk driving was to leave the car and start chowing down on some grass.

On Monday night (17 April), a man in Yiwu, China, encountered a police checkpoint while driving drunk. He was still clear enough to realise what that meant, but was so obviously drunk he decided to stop the car less than 100m before the checkpoint and leave.

He then proceeded to stumble up a hill by the roadside, before falling over and tumbling down, where the police officers caught up with him.

The man apparently reeked of alcohol, and the officers requested him to take a breathalyzer test. Upon which he kept insisting that he “wasn’t drinking” and “wasn’t driving”.

He must have forgotten the officers had perfectly functioning eyes and could see him leaving his vehicle. Which was less than 100m away.

This was probably the point when he realised there was no way he could get out of this. And so the only thing his alcohol-addled mind could come up with was to immediately sit his ass down and start pulling grass up by the handful.

Then stuffing them into his mouth.

How do you react when someone starts furiously eating grass in front of you? All the police could do was to keep trying to tell him to stop, as he shoved fistfuls of the green stuff into his face. According to the local police, he did that about 20 to 30 times in total, some of which he ate, some of which he spat out.

Sure does give new meaning to Law-n’ order, doesn’t it?

Unfortunately, even though all the grass did manage to save him from the breathalyzer, it was ultimately fruitless as he was led back to the local police station for blood testing.

His blood alcohol content was obviously way too high, at 0.156.

I guess the moral of the story here is that grass can’t sober you up or lower your blood alcohol content.

Maybe next time someone could try eating dirt?
