With the opening of the latest Downtown Line 3, it brings us closer to some of the food places that were previously out of reach, like places near Bencoolen MRT station and Jalan Besar MRT station. With that in mind, we decided to come up with a new guide to the 10 Best Food Near Downtown Line 3, a revision to our previous article to show you some of the must-eats when you’re near there!
Plus, this time, we will be introducing you to a variety of food (other than cafes) to try!
1. Fabulous Baker Boy
Located just next to Fort Canning MRT Station, Fabulous Baker Boy is the place you should visit if you are a huge fan of cakes and sweet treats. Here at this halal cafe, you can find anything from all-day breakfasts, pancakes to even mains for lunch and dinner!

2. Pu3 Restaurant
PU3 restaurant serves authentic Malay food, with one of their signature dishes being the Nasi Ambeng – a Javanese communal dish that is meant to be eaten with a group of people and in the most authentic way possible – with your hands!
The Nasi Ambeng Set comes in 1 pax ($7.50), 2 pax ($29.90) or 4 pax ($50.80), and you can choose up to ten side dishes!
Located in Bencoolen, you can now access this place easily via the downtown line and get off at Bencoolen MRT station!

3. Swee Choon Dim Sum Restaurant
When it comes to dim sum, many of us will still return to Swee Choon because it has got one of the most addictive Liu Sha Baos ever. But of course, we also gotta give props to some of their dim sums that are equally yummy as well. In any case, this place needs not much introduction: just look at the crowd and you’ll get what I mean.
Plus, it’s now even open for lunch so you don’t have to head there just for supper anymore!

4. Sungei Road Laksa
The new Jalan Besar MRT Station will bring about tons of good food right to our doorsteps, including the Sungei Road Laksa – famously known as the $2 laksa but has now upped their prices to $3.
Still, being one of the few stalls in Singapore that uses a charcoal burner to cook their laksa, the beautiful orange gravy and generous amount of ingredients found in each bowl still warrants a visit to the stall!

5. The Tiramisu Hero
If you a fan of this timeless and a classic Italian dessert, The Tiramisu Hero is one of the places you should visit for some good old Tiramisu. Other than Tiramisus, the menu at this cafe also boasts a huge selection of side sides, pastas, and mains for you to take your pick from!
And of course, you should totally end off your meal with some of the signature Tiramisu desserts – starting with the Tiramisu cake!

6. VXX Cooperative
If you were wondering, the name ‘VXX’ is actually the Roman numerals for 5-20, the area code of this space. This newest cafe is known for the plethora of coffee available, with roasting and brewing methods unique to them.
Other than coffee, the cafe also serves sandwiches, small bites and mains that pair really well with the beverages served there!

7. The Ugly Cake Shop
First up, The Ugly Cake Shop sells anything but ugly cakes. Plus, they do not believe in using artificial colouring, artificial flavours, fondant or gum paste: they only use high-quality ingredients (i.e. French cocoa, good butter, etc) and all-natural flavour for their cakes!
The cakes might not look as pretty as the cakes from other bakeries, but they do taste equally good, if not better.
And did we mention that they have a FRIED CHICKEN CAKE?!

8. Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Mee Sua
Located at Kaki Bukit 511 Market & Food Centre, the Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Mee Sua is known for their piping hot black chicken soup with mee sua, topped with your choice of kidney, mixed organs or lean meat. Plus, this wholesome bowl of noodles only costs $4, which is quite affordable for the amount of ingredients you can find!

9. The Pasta Boutique
Located in a coffee shop, The Pasta Boutique serves quality cafe dishes under $10. Here, you can find popular choices like Salted Egg Ravioli, Chilli Crab Pasta or even Chilli Crab Chicken Chop which are more than just your average western fare. I mean, the pictures on their Instagram page says it all!

10. Bedok Food Corner Hokkien Mee
With the construction of Sungei Bedok MRT, you will now have direct access to Bedok Food Centre where countless of hidden food gems await!
While you are here, don’t forget to try out their famous Bedok Food Corner Hokkien Mee prepared with a savoury gravy made from superior pork and prawn stock! Trust me, once you try the Hokkien Mee here, you’ll definitely want to return for more.
