Singaporeans can’t survive without data.
It’s not a theory; it’s a fact.
Kinda.
And while we wish that there’s a Wi-Fi network encapsulating the whole of Singapore, the reality’s that there’s none.
As a result, we have to burn through monthly data consumption rates, and fork out money for our telcos’ lunch breaks.
But guess what? There’s a saviour in town.
And it’s none other than Circles.Life, the company that incites the resentment of every other Singaporean telco.
“Try-before-you-buy” Initiative
On October 16, the mobile virtual network operator had launched a “try-before-you-buy” initiative called Circles Switch.
This venture is intended to attract those with soon-to-end post-paid contracts, and are looking for alternatives.
In other words, a cheaper deal that won’t suck my money dry every month.
Free SIM-only line
So what does Circles Switch offer?
Well, for a start, they are offering a free SIM-only line with 20GB local data, 100 minutes of talk time and 20 SMS messages a month.
Hah, I can’t even believe the sheer audacity. Are they trying to attract us loyal Singtel, M1 and Starhub users?
Guess what, Circles.Life? Your silly little ploy…
Worked. On me at least.
When can I sign up?!
Customers can sign up for the service from now till the end of the year.
Going by my superior and calculative counting skills, there are around 2 months and 2 weeks left to the trial’s expiration.
Still plenty of time for you to reap some free data.
Will there be any subscription fees?
To our understanding, no.
There are also no “hidden costs”: delivery charges, registration fees or SIM card costs are all nullified.
Cancellation available
If you’re uncomfortable with such a sudden gigantic amount of data at your disposal, you can choose to cancel any time before the trial period’s over. There will be no charges involved should you do so.
I really don’t know why you’ll want to cancel any free data unless you’re from Mars.
Netflix 2.0
I can see that look of suspicion on your face, and you’re right. This latest venture by Circles.Life is created with streaming service Netflix’s free trial offer in mind.
Customers automatically switch to a full base plan after the period’s over.
Double win for us lazy guys?
And by the way, it might work. One of my colleagues signed up for Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and he’s only watching Netflix…while paying Amazon Prime Video every month because, in his words, he’s “lazy to unsubscribe”.
Base plan
According to Circles.Life’s website, its basic monthly plan provides data of up to 6GB, 100 minutes’ free talk time and free incoming incoming SMS messages at S$28.
Those who port over will also be entitled to 20GB free data every month, for three months.
It looks like they’ve got you covered even after the free trial’s over.
They are confident about you jumping ship
Every individual digs a confident partner. There’s just something about a confident individual that gets your heart all fluttery.
The same applies to data-hungry consumers: we want a telco that guarantees us data at good rates with Dwayne Johnson’s smile.
Unfortunately, Circles.Life isn’t exactly Dwayne Johnson charismatic, but I dare say they are confident.
Without being arrogant.
Co-founder and director of Circles.Life, Rameez Ansar, had this to say.
“We want people to feel the power of a Circles.Life no-contract plan over so-called ‘subsidised’ 24-month contract plans. We are doing this because we are confident they will switch to a full Circles.Life plan.”
Circles.Life planning a service launch in Indonesia
I’m not sure whether we have any Indonesian readers here, but you will be happy to know this: Circles.Life is expanding into the Indonesian market by next year.
I can just picture the Indonesian telcos shivering in fear and thinking, “Shit, that spoil-market guy is gonna be here soon!”
Meanwhile, Circles.Life is currently operating at Block 71’s new location in Jakarta. It’s focused on constructing the local team, including operations, product and network engineering.
Signing up
First, you gotta head to Circles.Life’s website.
Secondly, you have to follow the instructions below.
And voila, you’re all set for 20GB worth of data for the next two months!
Life can’t get any better than that!
