10 Facts About MMA Star Angela Lee Who Just Got Engaged

Are you familiar with MMA Star Angela Lee? If you’re not, here’s how she looks like.

While she’s cute and all, DO NOT BE FOOLED BY HER DOCILE LOOKS.

Because this girl… can legitimately kick your ass.

Ouch.

1. Heritage

Angela has a pretty colourful background.

Born in Vancouver to a Singaporean father and a South Korean mother, she moved to Hawaii at the age of 7.

This technically makes her a Canadian-American of Singapore-Korean parentage.

2. Born to be a fighter

The Canadian-American has trained since a very young age and started competing at the age of six.

In 2011, she “won her division at the USA Amateur pankration national championships, and she followed that the next year by winning her division at the World Pankration Athlima Federation world championships in Greece.”

3. She became the youngest MMA champion in 2016

Just last year, Angela received the golden ticket when she was scheduled to face off against Mei Yamaguchi for the ONE Championship atomweight title.

It was a very close fight between these two skilled fighters, but Angela edged it out in the end. In doing so, she not only won the title but also became the youngest MMA Champion, at the age of… 19.

You can watch the fight below.

4. She’s only 21

Despite her huge achievements, she turns 21 this year.

Which makes me wonder, “What the heck am I doing with my life?”

5. She recently got engaged

I have some bad news for the Angela fanboys.

I regret to inform you that she’s officially… taken.

Not the Liam Neeson kind, but the love-love kind.

Just yesterday (22 Oct 17), she posted a picture on her Instagram account.

The caption reads: “YES! YES! YES! A million times, YES! Bruno Pucci, thank you for completing my fairytale ✨ I can’t wait to (officially) be yours forever! 💍”

Well…

But before you go out and lament in the rain, just remember the saying: “Even if there’s a keeper at the goal post, you can still score.”

Don’t tell Mum I said that.

6. Who’s the lucky guy?

Angela’s beau is a 27-year-old Brazilian named Bruno Pucci.

Now, before you start cracking your knuckles and demanding for a showdown with him, keep in mind that he’s a jiu-jitsu trainer with Evolve MMA, and is also a fighter with ONE Championship.

Now that’s what I call a power couple.

But I wouldn’t envy the significant other of their future children.

The parents-in-law meeting will probably be a blood fest.

7. They haven’t been dating “that” long

Now, here’s an interesting fact: Angela and her beau have been dating since January this year.

Personally, I feel that it isn’t that long, but maybe it’s just the way I’m brought up to think.

After all, in Singapore, there are only two scenarios in which you will get engaged before a full year of dating: accidental pregnancy, and when your parents are being held hostage by your girlfriend.

Otherwise, couples take around 50 years to get engaged. #truestory #scientificstudieshaveshown

Now that we are done with her love story, let’s look at some of her other incredible feats!

8. She defended her title earlier this year

A champion’s responsibility isn’t just to stay as one; he/she is also in charge of approving talented individuals who have earned it and awarding them badges accordingly.

Oh wait, this isn’t Pokemon?

Sorry, my bad.

Nevertheless, while there aren’t any badges involved, Angela certainly needs to keep her mantle close to her.

And she did that earlier this year when she defeated Brazil’s Istela Nunes, in the process defending her atomweight title for the first time.

9. She’s ranked pretty high up

As of October 2017, reputable sports ranking website Fight Matrix ranks her the #12 female MMA Strawweight (111-118.9 lbs) in the world.

Not an easy feat, if I must emphasise.

10. Her brother can kick your ass too.

You know you can’t win Angela’s beau in your current state. And you know you have to improve.

You start training, and after following a demonic daily regime of 100 push-ups, 100 squats, 100 sit-ups and a 10km run for three years, you have successfully gained unimaginable power.

And in the process lost your hair too, but that’s beside the point.

At long last, you challenge dear Pucci, and just when he’s reaching for a pre-fight handshake, you land a sucker punch. He goes down, and you celebrate.

“At last… Angela is MINE,” you scream.

But he appeared. The beast every boyfriend fears.

The brother… Christian Lee.

And as if the notion of facing off against an overprotective brother wasn’t scary enough, this particular bro is ripped.

And he can do stuff like this.

Did I mention that he’s a powerful fighter signed under ONE Championship as well?

Talk about power families.

Anyway, congratulations on your engagement, Angela! We wish you all the best, and may you keep winning those battles like how you play with our hearts!
