On Monday (10 Oct), a 19-year-old was arrested for his suspected involvement in the murder of his father at Block 653 Yishun Avenue 4.
The next day, Sylesnar Seah Jie Kai was hauled before court and was charged with the murder of Mr Eddie Seah Wee Teck, aged 47.
The accused appeared in court via video link, clad in a polo T-shirt and blue mask. He kept his head down the whole time.
After his charges were read, the police requested for the teenager to be remanded at the Central Police Division to assist in their investigations, to which District Judge Terence Tay granted.
Sylesnar Seah is represented by lawyers Sunil Sudheesan and Joyce Khoo from Quah Woo and Palmer.
The 19-year-old will be due in court again on Thursday.
Background Information of The Family
According to business records, the husband and wife are listed as partners in a business that deals in the purchase, selling and rental of properties.
They have been married since 1994 and have two sons and one daughter.
It is believed that Sylesnar Seah is their youngest child.
In an interview with TODAYonline, a 31-year-old man who has lived next door to the family for the past 12 years, said that he heard loud arguments coming from their house in the past.
However, those occasional arguments were about finances, and never involved their children.
Sylesnar Seah is known as an introverted and shy neighbour to his neighbours, who loves gaming.
What Supposedly Happened?
On the night of the murder, the victim allegedly walked out of the house after having an argument with his son, reported Shin Min Daily News.
The teen then went to the kitchen to grab a knife before he chased after his father.
Purportedly, he slashed his father in the neck region from behind and slashed him again across the back.
His victim then fled towards the staircase and tried to call for help.
Mr Eddie Seah’s attempt to escape left bloodstains on the staircase landings, and along the floors, walls, clothing racks and shelf on the fourth-floor corridor.
“I Saw The Man’s Face Covered With Blood”
For Ms Ady, a resident who lives in a fourth-floor unit with her friend’s family, the sight that greeted her after she opened the door at around 7pm was a huge shock.
The 57-year-old woman recalled hearing frantic knocking on the door that evening.
She initially thought that it was her friend’s son because he told her that he was coming home for dinner.
Assuming that he had forgotten his keys, she went to open the door, only to see a man covered in blood from his face to his clothes.
Ms Ady remembered that he was holding some kind of metallic object that was roughly 20cm long, while leaning on the clothing racks.
He whispered to Ms Ady to let him into the flat.
Mr Eddie Seah was also seen saying something to another person at the lift landing before he collapsed onto the ground.
Ms Ady ran into a room to hide and called the police.
The police confirmed that they received a call for help at around 7:05pm.
Mr Eddie Seah was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The accused teen was subsequently arrested.
Those found guilty of murder face the death penalty.
