Lest you wear square pants to work every day, you’ll have heard of A & W’s return to local shores, a comeback that stretched 16 years in the making.
And true to one’s expectations, its return was well-received. Very well-received. Considering how locals have been craving for its return for like, centuries, and coupled with the fact that its first outlet opened in a similarly hyped establishment like Jewel, it’s no wonder you get queues like this:
Yeah, sucks to be the one queueing, though I guess they do get their effort’s worth at the end.
But to really, really gather just how popular A & W’s return has truly been, one does not have to look any further than their latest Facebook post.
For apparently, the fast food outlet’s products have been in so much demand that they actually have to implement some temporary measures.
Like the limitation of food during certain hours.
Temporary measures
On 22 April 2019, A & W Singapore posted an update on its Facebook platform, informing customers that they’re implementing “some temporary measures” in order to provide a better dining experience in its Jewel outlet.
The post is as follows:
Transcript (to meet my word quota lest you can’t decipher that minimalistic-looking text):
Update:
As we strive to provide a better dining experience in A&W® Restaurants Jewel Changi Airport, we would like to inform that we are implementing some temporary measures:
3.00am to 6.00am – TAKE-AWAY A&W® Root Beer or A&W® Root Beer Float only. No food will be available for purchase.
6.01am to 11.00am – DINE-IN and TAKE-AWAY for Limited Menu only: Ala carte and combos for Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger, Marina Fish Sandwich, as well as Waffle Ice Cream, A&W® Root Beer and A&W® Root Beer Float.
We appreciate your kind understanding as we continue to make improvements to ensure food and service standards.
*End of transcript*
Lest you don’t get the above text because you’re drained from work, mentally and physically, here’s the rough gist:
Customers can only take-away A&W Root Beer or Root Beer floats from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., with no food available for purchase at the time.
From 6:01 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., dine-in and takeaway are limited to particular items on the menu only: ala carte and combos for Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger, Marina Fish Sandwich, as well as Waffle Ice Cream, A&W® Root Beer and A&W® Root Beer Float.
(Why not just close during these hours then #justsaying)
Reception
Suffice it to say that A&W’s update swiftly went viral, with over 1K likes, 350 comments and 758 shares garnered in the process.
And as one might’ve expected, the comments section’s fraught with complaints about the queue, as well as pleas for new outlets, hypothesises and even ‘alternatives’.
You can check out the full thread here for yourself.
More outlets coming soon
For those bemoaning A&W’s decision to plant its sole outlet so far in the East, worry not, for the fast food icon has announced decisions to implement a second and third outlet on local shores.
The second outlet will open in June this year, while the third will open by 2020. The second will reportedly be located at a “very high traffic location”.
JEM, maybe? 😉
West Mall, perhaps? 😀
