When you talk about night markets, the first thing that probably wouldn’t be the night market in JB. What pops into your mind is Bangkok and its lovely night shops that are devilishly cheap. The problem with Bangkok is, though, that it’s so far away.
You’ll need to book a flight, hotel and even transport plus a guide to get there. Recalculate your budget and you’re better off shopping here.
But you want the night market experience.
Here’s a deal-breaker. JB pasar malams are not too bad either, so why not head down to JB for a change?
Here are 6 JB night markets over there that we heard are pretty damn good!
Please note that they are only available on the days mentioned in the title, and are otherwise closed. Also, they are subject to changes so Google first before making your way there!
JB Night Markets
1. KSL City Night Market (Mondays)
The stretch runs from Grand Paragon Hotel all the way down to KSL Shopping Centre and is famous for its traditional cakes. We’re talking pandan chiffon to the evergreen marble cake which is priced from RM2 and up!
Address: Coffee Bean outlet open area of KSL Shopping Centre
Operation Hours: 5.00 p.m. onwards
2. Bukit Indah Pasar Malam (Wednesday)
If you’re heading here, an Uber or Grab is your best bet, as parking is bad.
It’s right next to the main road. The stretch runs for 200 metres and is pretty near to AEON Bukit Indah Shopping Centre.
This pasar malam carries Malay food and has a couple of good nasi padang stalls. You can also give the ayam percik (BBQ Chicken Breasts) a try. Just make sure you go early because they’re usually sold by the same vendors who sell satay.
Address: Jalan Indah 22/2, Taman Bukit Indah 2, Johor Bahru
Operation Hours: 5.00 p.m. onwards
3. Taman Puteri Wangsa Pasar Malam (Friday)
One of the biggest offerings for night markets in JB. If fruits are your thing, you can expect to get them for a steal. We’re talking half the price of what you usually pay for jackfruits and durians in Singapore!
Mee goreng is another show stopper here.
Address: Jalan Badik 6, Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram, Johor
Operation Hours: 5.00 p.m. onwards

4. Johor Jaya Pasar Malam (Tuesday)
There’s a kueh stall here that has literally trays and trays of goodness waiting to be bought by customers.
If you want to get a bite out of these babies, come early (4 pm is the safest) as they’re already clearing up to go by 6 plus!
You can also check out many other things here, including the fantastic roasted duck stall.
Address: Just at the corner of the Family Food Court, Mount Austin, Johor Jaya, Johor Bahru
Operation Hours: 5.00 p.m. up to midnight (For certain stalls)
5. Taman Ungku Tun Aminah Pasar Malam (Saturday)
This is considered to be the largest of its kind in JB. The night market sells everything you can think of, and more la. Try the smelly tofu for size, or get salt-baked chicken pieces at RM5 each.
And it’s perfect because it opens on the weekend. Can sleep in on Sunday.
Address: Jalan Perkasa 5, Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, Johor Bahru
Operation Hours: 6.00 p.m. onwards
6. Meldrum Night Market (Every Day)
This is by far the most convenient in terms of location: just behind JB Central. There are so many hawker stalls open, from oyster omelettes to char kuey teow and even tandoori. Prices are reasonable too!
Address: 23 Jalan Meldrum, Johor Bahru, Johor
Operation Hours: 5.00 p.m. onwards
And you might be wondering, “JB pasar malam Saturday open or not?” Well, we can’t confirm anything, so it’s best to always Google it before you head there to avoid any disappointment!
See? No need to travel so far away to get good food and things. So head on down to JB pasar malams now and enjoy the same thrills of eating good street food! Thank heavens for JB!
