If you’re friends with someone who has stinky feet, I have a piece of good news for you! There are actually ways to prevent it and now you can advise your friend or even take precautions to avoid being the next stinky feet master! So, heads up and take whatever that is listed here seriously if you don’t want people to siam you because of your special odour!

Silica Gel
Ever notice those small white packets enclosed together with your favourite snacks or dried food? Yep, those are silica gel. They help to absorb moisture. After a long day of wearing those shoes, place some silica gel inside to allow your shoes to be dry from all the sweat from your feet.

Used tea bags
After you’re done with your tea, simply remove the bags with the tea leaves and leave them to dry. After that, put them in your shoes to absorb moisture too.

Avoid wearing same shoes everyday
We all have that favourite, versatile pair of shoes that goes with anything and everything. Sorry to burst your bubble but try to avoid wearing them everyday. This is to allow the moisture in your shoes to dry out. It is almost impossible for your shoes to naturally dry out within a day. Thus, experts advise those which are more prone to smelly foot to alternate their shoes. (Pfft, probably a good reason to convince yourself or your parents to go shoe shopping) If possible, try and stick to leather and canvas shoes. Another good way to allow your shoes to dry faster and feel fresher, is to dry them under direct sunlight.

Antiperspirants
To let it work its magic, it’s better to apply the antiperspirant at night or in the morning. Don’t just focus on the sole, you should also apply at the sides and the tops of your toes. Otherwise, you can try the lotion Perspirex which can be applied on your hands and feet. It is beneficial as you don’t have to reapply that often. (For all you lazy people out there, no wonder you have stinky feet). It is said that one application will last about 3-5 days. This product can be found at local pharmacies such as Watsons. Otherwise, if you’re looking for cheaper alternatives, experts recommend using normal antiperspirants for underarms. Well, they said it works fine.

Changing your socks everyday
Probably another reason to go shopping for socks. Have you seen those socks with cutesy designs? Oh my. I want to buy them all to match them with my sneakers. Socks and shoes are like accessories for your feet. It is essential to keep them looking nice but even more essential to keep them feeling fresh and clean. Besides, there are socks equipped with ventilation panels to help keep your feet dry.

Medicated insoles
Products such as Watsons’ Aromatherapy Massage Insoles are perfect for added comfort and keeping clean. The insoles are coated with freshmint fragrance to keep the sweat odour at bay. You can even trim the insoles to suit your feet size. Of course, wash it once in a while in warm, soapy water to prevent buildup of germs.

Cut toenails regularly
By keeping your toenails short, you can prevent dirt from getting stuck underneath your nails. Once left there for long, it will start to stink. Hence, it is ideal to trim your toenails regularly. Also, be sure to remove hard skin from your feet. When hard skin comes into contact with sweat, it becomes damp and soggy, becoming an ideal place for bacteria to flourish. For ladies, here’s another reason to go for pedicure and make your feet look pretty!

Go barefoot
If possible, try to go barefoot at home. This allows your feet to breathe. However, if necessary to put on footwear at home, opt for open-toed flip-flops and sandals which gives your feet plenty of ventilation.

Just a heads up, you produce about 1 cup of sweat every time you wear shoes. So, don’t slack in personal hygiene and here’s to happier feet!
