Singapore & Malaysia to Raise Cross-Border Taxi Quotas to 500 Each; Zig & Kumpool Join From 16 Nov

Transport ministries in Singapore and Malaysia said in a joint statement on 6 November that the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme will be expanded from 16 November 2026, CNA reported.

From that date, travellers can book a licensed cross-border taxi on two more apps — Singapore’s CDG Zig and Malaysia’s Kumpool — on top of GrabCar.

Where Cross-Border Taxis Can Pick You Up

The last expansion took effect on 4 May 2026, when each country raised its cap from 200 to 300 taxis.

That round of changes also loosened drop-off rules. Licensed cross-border taxis may set passengers down anywhere in Singapore, and in the Malaysian operating areas of Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Forest City, Kulai and Senai.

Collecting a new fare after crossing the border is a different matter: drivers may do so only at approved points.

Singapore-registered cross-border taxis can pick up street-hail passengers at Larkin Sentral in Johor Bahru. They can also collect passengers through ride-hailing bookings at Toppen Shopping Centre, Mid Valley Southkey Mall and Angsana Mall.

Malaysia-registered cross-border taxis can pick up street-hail passengers at Ban San Street Terminal in Singapore. For ride-hailing bookings, they can also collect passengers at designated points near VivoCity, near Century Square in Tampines, and at Joo Koon MRT station.

Zig and Kumpool Join GrabCar

CDG Zig, which is part of ComfortDelGro, and Kumpool will operate under the expanded scheme alongside GrabCar. From 16 November, passengers will be able to book through any of those three licensed ride-hailing platforms.

Each country will raise its licensed taxi cap from 300 to 500. That adds room for 200 more cabs on each side and takes the two-country total from 600 to 1,000.
