Grab is reviewing an incident involving one of its autonomous vehicles and a girl at a pedestrian crossing in Punggol, together with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and its autonomous-driving technology partner WeRide.
The incident took place at a junction along Punggol Field Walk at about 8:11am on 5 November 2026, Lianhe Zaobao reported. Dashcam footage circulated online the following day, prompting discussion about pedestrian safety and autonomous vehicles.
Girl Stepped Onto Crossing as Shuttle Turned Left
According to AsiaOne’s account of footage posted by SG Road Vigilante, a woman and a girl were waiting beside a pedestrian crossing before the girl began crossing while an autonomous shuttle was turning left.
That account said the shuttle’s signal was already on before it turned, and that nobody was using the crossing then. The woman then moved forward to hold the girl.
Zaobao reported that the woman pulled the girl back, and that the vehicle slowed before continuing on its way. The woman and girl subsequently crossed together.
Grab Says Safety Is Its Priority
Responding to Zaobao’s questions, Grab said it was aware of the incident and was conducting a close review with LTA and WeRide. The company said safety remained its top priority.
AsiaOne separately received confirmation from Grab that the three parties were reviewing the incident.
Public Rides Began in April
Grab’s autonomous shuttle services in Punggol opened for public rides on 1 April 2026, following testing and invitation-only community rides.
The services are part of a wider rollout of autonomous transport in the town. In a September announcement, Grab said it planned to increase its fleet from 10 to 50 vehicles over six months and broaden its coverage within Punggol.
Grab also said it aimed to expand to other parts of Singapore, subject to regulatory approval.
