Police arrested two men after a fight outside a coffee shop at Block 34 Upper Cross Street in Chinatown. On Sunday (8 November), police said they were looking for a third man involved in the fight.
What Police Said About the Arrests
Officers were alerted to the fight at about 12.20am on Saturday (7 November). Police said they found a 37-year-old man who appeared to be drunk. He allegedly swore at the officers and threatened them as they tried to arrest him.
Police arrested him on suspicion of affray, drunkenness in a public place and using abusive language against a public servant. They also arrested a 68-year-old man on suspicion of affray. Under Singapore’s Penal Code, affray occurs when two or more people disturb the peace by fighting in public.
Police told 8world that the 37-year-old was conscious when he was taken to hospital for a check-up. The Singapore Civil Defence Force told The Straits Times that it assessed one person for minor injuries at the scene and that the person declined to go to hospital.
Bystanders Tried to Break Up the Fight
Shin Min Daily News, in a report published by Lianhe Zaobao, described a video in which the fight spilled from the pavement onto the road. The footage showed men swinging plastic chairs and bystanders trying to separate them.
Police said on Sunday that investigations were ongoing.
