On 18 June (Saturday), Malaysian actress-singer Adibah Noor passed away at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Condolences from Fellow Malaysian Artistes
According to The Star, the news was first shared by actor AC Mizal via Instagram.
In his post, his caption pays tribute to Noor.
“My friend Adibah Noor has just passed away. Condolences from my family,” he wrote.
The news was further confirmed by AC Mizal’s wife.
“Yes, it is true that Adibah Noor passed away at the hospital. I got the news from Datuk Zainal Abidin’s wife as we are close friends with the late Adiah,” she said.
Noor was suffering from ovarian cancer.
Online Tributes to Celebrate Noor
Social media tributes poured in from fellow Malaysian artistes and friends.
“She was an incredibly talented person. She could sing, she could act, and to top it all off she was incredibly kind,” said actress Susan Lankester.
Malaysian artiste Namewee said he was shocked to find out the passing of Noor.
“It’s still hard for me to accept the fact…I’m really honoured and proud to have you in my movie—Nasi Lemak 2.0 Rakyat Malaysia akan sentiasa merindui kak Noor kita. R.I.P,” posted Namewee on Twitter.
Another user, @sara_nikka, shared on Twitter her favorite Adibah Noor clip.
“Gone too soon. Thank you for entertaining us all these years.”
Noor’s Career
Noor started out in the entertainment industry in 1995. Beforehand, she was an ex-teacher with a degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
Prior to that, Noor starred in a talent show called Suara 90-an Nescafe, where she won first place in 1994.
The late artiste was known for her wit and charm in the entertainment circle.
Between 2005 to 2010, the entertainer carved out a substantial music career with the release of three studio albums and four singles.
Her 2006 album Telalu Istimewa gained critical acclaim and six nominations for the 13th Anugerah Industri Muzik (or Music Industry Award).
Noor also starred in seventeen films from 2004 to 2022, with her last film being Juang.
The artiste was prominently known as the lovable servant Kak Yam in the award-winning film, Sepet.
