Genting Highlands hotel and apartment complex Amber Court has been labelled as haunted for decades, and they’ve finally had enough.
On 22 June, its management committee came forward to deny the rumours, and said they will take legal action against these claims.
Creepy Appearance in 2000s
Amber Court was built in 1996, and was meant to be a resort.
Unfortunately, there was the Asian Financial Crisis one year later, and many units ended up being sold as apartments instead.
Additionally, due to the developer Villa Genting Development being liquidated in 2000, the building had nobody to maintain it.
This led to the building developing bright-red mould on the outside due to Genting’s humid climate, making the building look like something out of a horror movie.
Yeah, it definitely didn’t help that the mould or algae were red in colour.
Amber Court started to become famous for its super creepy appearance, and many “ghost hunters” came to explore the place and make videos about it being haunted.
In fact, its reputation as a haunted complex even led to the Malaysian horror movie “Haunted Hotel” to be filmed in this building in 2017.
After Many Renovations, Still Labelled As Haunted Due to YouTubers
Since the haunted house allegations started, the management of Amber Courts have done multiple renovations and improvements to clean up the look of the complex.
However, there are still YouTubers who make videos about the hotel being haunted when residents there have never even seen a ghost, let alone disturbed by supernatural happenings.
In fact, during the press conference, the management committee played videos that showed how the YouTubers will add fake crying sounds, or use actors, in their ghost-hunting videos.
Severely Damaged Property’s Value, Trespassing Causing Disturbance to Owners
Due to all of these content creators who spread baseless rumours for clout, the property prices of Amber Court have plummeted.
According to the former chairman of the management committee, Nicholas Song, other properties around Genting Highlands cost at least RM1,000 per square feet. In comparison, Amber Court is only valued at about RM250 per square feet.
The current chairman has also stated that Amber Court is the lowest-priced property in Genting.
Additionally, many conmen had approached residents to offer services for cleansing of bad spirits, leading to residents filing police reports. Many YouTubers have also trespassed into the residents’ homes while filming, often in the middle of the night.
This has actually led to over 100 residents protesting against these YouTubers, gathering outside the complex and holding up signs condemning the YouTubers.

Threaten to Take Legal Action
The committee chairman stated that the hotel is within their legal rights to take legal action against those who spread false rumours about Amber Court.
This includes YouTubers, internet celebrities, netizens, and feng shui masters.
The committee also annouced numerous efforts to rebrand and renovate the complex, like installing CCTVs, cleaning up the premises, and changing the name of the building.
