What Happened?
According to Lianhe Zaobao, the car accident happened at around 1:03pm on Sunday, near the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 2.
In response to media enquiries, the police have confirmed that they received the report at 1:03pm on Sunday that an accident had occurred on the aforementioned road. It involved three vehicles: a car, a lorry and a bus.
The 68-year-old man who was driving the car was sent to the hospital unconscious, and later succumbed to his severe injuries at the hospital.
The 33-year-old female passenger in the car and the 55-year-old man who was driving the lorry were conveyed to the hospital while conscious.
The 55-year-old lorry driver and the 65-year-old bus captain are currently helping the police with the investigation.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the ambulances took the three to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital.
On-site photos show that after the silver car and lorry collided, the lorry’s front bumper and left door had caved in, while the car sustained the heaviest damage as its entire right side was dented. The tail lights were smashed, the licence plate had flown to the curb, and the inner workings of the car rear were exposed. The glass windows were badly cracked too.
Based on the positions of the vehicles and the corresponding damages, it is believed that the car was turning right when it was hit by the lorry that was going straight. The bus in front of the two vehicles was also affected.
The bus was about to stop at the bus stop at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 when it was suddenly hit by the car, said SBS Transit’s vice president and customer service and corporate liaison Chen Guizhen.
Upon witnessing the accident, the bus captain immediately stopped the bus to offer his assistance. No one on the bus was injured.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
