In case you’re not aware, Astons is a popular F&B chain that provides quality western food at an affordable price, and they’re the pioneer player before other affordable western food chains landed on our shores.
Started in 2005, you can find them everywhere now, and chances are, there’s always a queue in their outlets.
They’ve now branched out to several other brands, including the ever popular and Goody Feed human beings’ favorites fried chicken chain Chic-A-Boo.
While they have an high-SES brand, the Astons Steak and Salad outlets that include free-flow sides, their latest venture is even more atas.
Because it’s Wagyu.
Wag…what!?
What’s Wagyu?
For the uninitiated, Wagyu is kind of like a Japanese beef. To put it simply, Wagyu beef is expensive: they’re known to have that melt-in-your-mouth texture and heavy marbling. In fact, some people call it the most expensive beef in the world.
On the other hand, we all know Atsons for its value-for-money food.
So when Astons opened a restaurant called BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse, you know you’re going to have the best of both words: high-SES food at low-SES price.
BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse
Since we’ve not tried it, here’s the description in their website:
BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse aims to bring high quality and exclusive Bizengyu (Wagyu) to steak lovers at an affordable price, with steaks starting at only $18.90+. Having an exclusive partnership with Okayama cattle farmers, we import entire carcasses, handpicked and delicately processed by experienced Japan-trained butchers, so that diners can enjoy the different cuts prepared and served in the way they are best suited for.
Other than steaks that are ‘caramelised’ on high-intense charcoal grill imported from Japan, our menu also features some of American all-time favourites such as burgers, chops and wholesome side dishes with a Japanese touch. For those who enjoy having some alcohol to accompany good food, BIZEN has a good selection of wines, sake, shochu and beer.
Wagyu steak from $18.90?!
Here’s the menu for your reference:
According to ieatishootipost, the restaurant “is the cheapest place in Singapore to enjoy a quality Japanese Wagyu steak.”
And they look high-SES:

Basically a more expensive version of Aston’s with smaller portions and one less side dish.
One thing to note is that according to its menu, it only comes with one side.
However, unlike the usual Astons outlets, there are some interesting new sides:
Udon as a side? That’s something new.
