Autistic Son Lost After Boarding the Wrong Bus; ‘Rescued’ by Stranger who also has an Autistic Son

It must be nothing short of a father’s ultimate nightmare to see his own young autistic son taking the wrong bus and not being aware of it.

And yet, for Facebook user Bob Lee, it was not a mere nightmare but an actual reality he had to contend with on 1 April 2021.

What a twisted April Fool‘s notion it would’ve been too, had it not been for two kind Samaritans who eventually guided the lost boy back to his family.

Autistic Son Lost After Boarding the Wrong Bus; ‘Rescued’ by Stranger who also has an Autistic Son

On 2 April 2021, Facebook user Bob Lee posted a distressing, yet at the same time heartwarming post on the social media platform.

According to him, 1 April started like any other day. He had awaited bus service 183 at the stop before the one his son was situated at, in a bid to supervise the latter’s ascendance into independency.

Things soon took a dire turn, however, when his son ended up boarding 188 instead of the stipulated 183. And to make matters worse, the former bus service was headed in the opposite direction.

Panicking, Lee and his wife began chasing after the bus, with the former eventually switching to a bicycle and the latter switching to a car.

Thankfully, Lee’s wife managed to catch up with the bus after a few minutes and called out:

“I’m looking for my son, he has autism!”

But the story has yet to end.

“The boy who talks to himself? He alighted at the polyclinic,” the bus captain replied.

Missing

Lee then took a cab to the designated bus stop, but his son was nowhere to be found.

Curiously, the latter’s GPS location indicated that he was near their home, a notion which confused Lee.

Did he go home? Lee wondered.

He subsequently phoned his neighbour, asking for help with looking around the nearby vicinity.

But the father’s heart was not easing.

Panicking, he started shouting his son’s name, which attracted the attention of a Malay father with a child.

“Are you looking for your son? My wife brought him to (the) police station. Don’t worry, my son’s also ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), we will help you,” the man said.

Apparently, his wife had taken care of the teen when he was lost.

Thereafter, the man’s wife brought the teen over, and Lee was beyond grateful.

“Finally reunited,” he wrote.

“Thank you all so much for the help rendered.”

He also wrote: “I’m so grateful that (my son) has met a kind Samaritan.”

In a later interview with Mothership, Lee disclosed:

“We really need more people like them who can help look out for our special needs children. Their act of kindness can be a very good example to the public on how a small act can go such a long way in keeping our special needs children safe,” Lee said.

Kampung Spirit

It’s heartening to see that the legendary kampung spirit has not been relegated to local film folklore just yet, as this incident serves to attest to.

It should be noted that Lee and the Malay man have also since become fast friends.

Netizens were also thankful for the family’s reunion, with some even cheering them on.

And for the record, here’s an insightful comment by the female half of the kind Samaritans in question:
