According to the new Pasir Ris Hawker Centre's manager, who said in a media release on Wednesday, 6 September, they have plans to promote a fusion between traditional hawker fare and "hipster hawkers". Image: channelnewsasia.com But the stalls are not filled at the moment. Applications for the new hawker centre will open on 11 September and run up to 22 September. Strict Criteria for Applicants Know of someone who's interested to apply? It's not easy. Applicants will be assessed based on "food quality, selling price, food concept and experience". Furthermore, those who are shortlisted may also have to "go through a food tasting exercise". I think we can expect the best of the best. It appears that this is the first for Pasir Ris which has about 110,000 residents. Wow, really? Anyway, all Singaporeans and PRs can apply. You have to purchase an application form which costs $10 (nothing is free in Singapore mah) from the following locations during the application period on weekdays only: Foodfare @ Downtown East 1 Pasir Ris Close, Downtown East, E! Avenue #01-339, Singapore 519599 Pasir Ris Elias Community Club 93 Pasir Ris Drive 3, Singapore 519498 Pasir Ris East Community Club 1 Pasir Ris Drive 4, Singapore 519457 Completed applications are to be submitted at the Downtown East location only. There will be a briefing on 14 September for those interested. You can call 6550 6500 or head down to Foodfare @ Downtown East for more information. Traditional Level 1 & Hipster Level 2 The first floor will accommodate traditional hawker food, "comfort food" like chicken rice and wonton mee. while the second floor will be for young people like me. Young-at-heart peeps are welcome too! The second floor "Fareground" will house "new generation hawkers to excite patrons with their creative brand of modern cuisine". They will also have events like art markets, craft fairs and gigs. I am imagining a cafe-like atmosphere. Or the container food place. Can we have aircon, please? Image: pbs.twimg.com Cashless Payments Made Available There will be two modes of cashless payment - Plus! Cards / Plus! Pay and DBS PayLah! available at the hawker centre as stated by NTUC Foodfare. So tell your mums and aunties-at-heart that they can use their Plus! Cards to earn Link Points if they top up and use it to pay for their food purchases. These Link Points can be redeemed at the hawker centre itself and other retail outlets including NTUC FairPrice. Perfect! I'm rather eager to visit this place but it's not open yet.
