Many people around the world, born in 1952 and after, have ever known of only one ruler of the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II. Sadly, that is no longer the case as His Majesty The King, Charles III, announced the peaceful death of Queen Elizabeth II. The widely respected queen passed away at her residence, Balmoral Castle, at the age of 96. In a statement published by The Royal Family’s Twitter, King Charles III, who is now the immediate ruler of the United Kingdom, described his mother’s passing as a loss that will be felt deeply through the nation, the Realms, the Commonwealth and countless of people around the world. She also saw the multiple Prime Ministers who have served the nation, with Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher being the more notable ones. United Kingdom Mourns Death of Queen Upon the announcement of the Queen’s death, the flags around the nation, the Realms and the Commonwealth were flown at half-mast, to pay respect. Citizens also flocked to the gate of Buckingham Palace to pay their respects despite the rain. Silence was first observed. However, many started to sing "God Save The Queen" shortly after the gathering started. It is noted that a double rainbow was observed shortly after the Queen’s death, a symbol of peace. The Queen had four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The next in line to take over the throne is now Prince William, who is the son of King Charles and the grandson of Queen Elizabeth. Following behind Prince William is his eldest son, Prince George who was born in 2013, followed by his daughter Princess Charlotte and then by his youngest son, Prince Louis accordingly. Image: BBC PM Lee Pays Tribute Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, were among the many prominent politicians around the world to pay tribute to the Queen. In his Facebook post, he states that he is deeply saddened over the news and that her death will leave a mark in Singapore's history. According to CNA, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has said that all state flags at government buildings will be flown at half-mast during the Queen's funeral to show a mark of respect. The parliament will also be observing a minute of silence on Monday (12 Sep).
