It’s normal to feel stressed out and angry. The question is: how do we manage this anger?
Some of us play games, maybe others scream into a pillow or ask your boss for higher pay so you can stress shop.
I’m kidding, please don’t do that last one.
What you shouldn’t do, however, is to take out your anger on someone else and potentially cause harm to them.
Maid Hit One-Month Old Baby
And this one got really physical.
An Indonesian maid was sentenced to nine months of jail after pleading guilty to one charge of mistreating a month-old baby.
Lana Ngizatul Mona, 26, had apparently hit the child so hard the CCTV cameras could pick up the sound.
And the reason?
She just wanted to ‘vent her stress’, according to the court hearing today (21 October 2020).
Much like how one plus one isn’t three, anger plus baby shouldn’t mean hit the baby.
What Happened
The details of the incident don’t make it any better.
Lana had worked for the boy’s mother two months prior to the incident. She was to look after her four children and complete the housework.
Pretty normal maid stuff so far.
On 30 April this year, at 7.30am, the mother heard a cry from the living room while she was in her own room.
When checking the CCTV footage, she saw Lana hitting the boy three times while she carried and fed him milk.
She first hit him on the back with her wrist and then two more times on the back with her fist. Each time, the boy would cry.
According to the deputy public prosecutor, all three hits could be heard through the CCTV.
Aftermath
Even though the child survived, he was in a bad condition.
When the mother took him to the hospital, he was found with a 2cm by 2cm bruise over his shoulder.
The deputy public prosecutor also asked for at least nine months jail, which she ended up getting.
Lana pleaded for a lighter sentence because she wanted to go back to her family. She also claimed that she was remorseful and that she had a child to support.
My ironic-situation senses are tingling super hard right now.
Lana could’ve been jailed up to eight years, fined up to S$8000 or both for abusing the boy.
Other Incidents This Year
Thankfully, it isn’t a very common situation where maids attack their employers and families, though a few other incidents this year standout.
In July, a maid stabbed a 95-year-old woman to death before turning herself in.
She allegedly stabbed the woman to death as the latter was asleep.
January saw two other cases as well.
One had a maid put a toddler’s hand in boiling water and another who served mixed rice with her own urine and menstrual blood to her employer’s family.
2020 hasn’t been goody and we all know that.
