Alright people, hands up if you are interested to pay SGD$1,100 for a pair of tired and dirty-looking sneakers!
These sneakers are found in the furthest corner of your storeroom and possibly are covered with dust and dirt…
Oh, wait. I am sorry. These are not your dirty and used sneakers from the dry market store.
These sneakers are from Balenciaga.
I say what? Yes, you got it right.
Balenciaga has announced their newest fashionista – The Triple S sneakers. Launching on 21 September, it is supposed to embody the old-school sentiments of primary and secondary school.
It sure did for us Singaporeans.
Just check them out. The rugged look, that worn-out appearance!
Doesn’t it look so appealing to you?! High fashion has gone beyond what we peasants can understand or afford, but these sneakers have seemed to take on an almost mocking tone with its tired and worn-out look.
Balenciaga described them as “real, heavy-duty, high fashion-spec footwear”, but we think that it just looks like a pair of sneakers that mocks the everyday hardworking men and women out there who may be struggling to make ends meet.
Perhaps we are too harsh.
The “ugly is cool” concept has been around high fashion for some time. Take for example the mud-covered jeans from Nordstrom. That was another “ugly is cool” concept, but again, it does appear to mock the honest working men of America.
Maybe Balenciaga wants to match these sneakers with its fake paper shopping bags and its IKEA’s big blue tote.
Yeah, remember this?
It’s also from Balenciaga.
Nevertheless, these sneakers are kicking up a storm on Twitter, with some users citing disbelief at the sheer ridiculousness of these sneakers and some users expressing their heart-felt love for them. One of them even said, “These shoes are literally an abstract embodiment [of] my thought process.”
Sure, there will always be lovers and haters. Let us just say that we are likely not going to own a pair of these Triple S sneakers from Balenciaga because we are quite sure we can find something similar in our old shoes cabinets. #justsaying #omg
Balenciaga never fails to surprise us, doesn’t they?
