But now, with the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, there’s a new sea creature to fear: the cruise ship.

Cruise Ship Banned From Docking At M’sia & Thailand Heading To S’pore

Costa Fortuna, a cruise ship that was recently turned away from Malaysia and Thailand, is headed towards our shores.

All passengers aboard the Costa Fortuna cruise ship will undergo health checks when they disembark in Singapore on Tuesday (10 Mar), reported CNA.

Diamond Princess

You may remember reading about the disaster that was the Diamond Princess cruise ship.

One passenger on the cruise tested positive for the Covid-19 virus six days after leaving the ship. It docked in the port of Yokohama, Japan, three days later.

The man, from Hong Kong, boarded the ship in Japan and stayed on board for five days, then disembarked in his hometown. It’s a bit like farting in a lift then quickly leaving it as ten other people enter.

When it docked in Yokohama, the ship had 3,711 crew members and guests.

Even after being notified of the Hong Kong man’s case, it took Japanese officials more than 72 hours to lock down the ship.

But it was too late; it ended up infecting around 700 of the 3,700 people aboard and ended up killing 6 passengers.

This is one of the reasons people are so wary of cruise ships. Due to the large number of people on board and the fact that they often come into close contact with each other for a significant period of time, it’s easy for a ship to become a Covid-19 cluster even if only one person is infected.

This brings us back to the Costa Fortuna.

No suspected virus cases

Costa Fortuna declared that none of its passengers currently aboard the ship has a fever or other symptoms of respiratory illness.

Before embarking, all passengers had completed “pre-embarkation checks” which includes temperature screening.

And before disembarking, passengers and crew members will be checked by the doctor on board the ship to ensure they are healthy, said authorities.

Cruise Ship Will Dock in S’pore

The Singapore port authorities have confirmed that they would allow the ship to dock.

Passengers entering Singapore will have to go through temperature checks.

And those who exhibit Covid-19 symptoms may be required to undergo a Covid-19 swab test. If you refuse the swab test, then you won’t be allowed entry in Singapore.

So don’t worry, they know what they’re doing
