What happens in Bintan stays in Bintan.
Just kidding, it doesn’t. What happens in Bintan spreads everywhere on TikTok instead.
There’s been yet another update to the recent Bintan Hotel saga—the hotel itself has issued an official letter detailing its account of events.
A Summary of the Bintan Hotel Saga So Far
If you haven’t heard about the Bintan Hotel saga yet, boy, are you missing out. It’s nothing like the Jocelyn Chia controversy or the Ridout Road saga—the Bintan Hotel saga is rather petty.
There are a million clips for you to watch on TikTok to understand the entire saga, some of which are up to three minutes long.
I know, right? Three-minute video on TikTok? You might as well ask me to sit through a three-hour lecture.
Anyway, it doesn’t matter—we watched the TikTok clips so that we can summarise it for you.
Here are the key characters to familiarise yourself with. A Singaporean with the pseudonym “Mask Crusader”, an elderly lady presumably related to him, a Caucasian man known as Dan, and the director of said Bintan Hotel, Eric Saw.
During Mask Crusader’s stay at Doulos Phos The Ship Hotel, he was suddenly awakened at 3 am on Tuesday (30 May) by hotel staff despite a “do not disturb” sign hung outside his door.
As it turns out, hotel staff earlier discovered an elderly lady wandering about the cabin corridors who knocked on the door of an unknown guest’s cabin. The hotel staff managed to send the elderly lady back to her cabin, which she checked into with her elderly husband.
To ensure the elderly lady doesn’t wander about again, the hotel staff approach Mask Crusader, who they presume was related to the elderly lady, given that staff heard Mask Crusader address the elderly lady’s husband as “dad”.
When Mask Crusader opened his cabin door to be greeted by the hotel staff at 3 am, he went “Berserker Mode” on the hotel staff, scolding them and waking other guests up.
Fast forward to the following day, Dan catches Mask Crusader on camera ranting to hotel staff in the lobby about two things—an electrical power failure at the hotel and the team knocking on his door the previous night.
Dan accuses Mask Crusader of “abusing” hotel staff.
Later, Mark Crusader catches Dan and his wife filming his interactions with the hotel staff, and they all start pointing fingers here and there—literally. Dan shoots a middle finger at Mark Crusader at one point.
The hotel’s director Eric Saw also allegedly threatened Mark Crusader and had hotel security “manhandle” Mark Crusader.
Since then, parties have shared their respective sides of the story on TikTok, YouTund even Google Reviews.
It’s a classic “he say, she say” situation. While Dan alleges Mark Crusader was “abusing” hotel staff, Mark Crusader begs to differ.

Bintan Hotel Responds Saying S’pore Man Refused to Acknowledge Elderly Woman When Asked
Phew. That was a long story.
Now that you’re all caught up on the saga, you’re ready for the newest addition: the hotel’s official response.
We’ll admit it’s a long response, but the gist of the Bintan hotel’s response zooms into why the saga started in the first place—because the Singaporean, Mask Crusader, refused to acknowledge the elderly woman when hotel staff asked him about her on the night of 30 May.
The hotel’s director Eric Saw recounted the full story from the hotel staff’s perspective.
Apparently, after the hotel staff sent the elderly lady back to her cabin, Eric Saw was concerned that she may leave her cabin again. Thus, he instructed hotel staff to raise this to Mask Crusader.
However, upon knocking on Mask Crusader’s cabin door, Mask Crusader unleashed a tirade on the hotel staff without listening to what they had to say.
Macam machine gun.
While the hotel staff tried to explain to Mask Crusader their rationale for knocking on his door this late at night, the Singaporean consistently refused to acknowledge the elderly lady. Instead, he repeatedly berated the hotel staff for knocking on his door despite the “do not disturb” sign he hung outside.
According to the hotel staff, Mask Crusader even accused the staff of being “stupid”.
No matter how hard the hotel staff tried to get him to acknowledge the elderly lady and their concerns for her safety, Mask Crusader would constantly divert back to his “do not disturb” rant.
Bintan Hotel: Mask Crusader Shoved Phone into Hotel Director’s Face
The following day, at the hotel lobby, Mask Crusader told the hotel staff that whether the elderly lady was his relative was “none of [their] business”.
Ah, the classic Singaporean rebuttal: “None of your business!”
According to the hotel, this eventually devolved into a full-fledged argument. Mark Crusader then whipped out his mobile phone and shoved it into the hotel director, Eric Saw’s face to video him.
This was where Mask Crusader’s TikTok of Eric Saw seemingly threatening Mask Crusader came from.
Mask Crusader then ranted about the electrical power failure—we also see this in clips from Dan’s TikTok.

To this, the Bintan hotel has something new to add. The hotel recounts that after power was restored the previous night, hotel staff went from cabin to cabin to check on the guests.
Mask Crusader allegedly was fine during this round of checks. According to the hotel’s version of the story, Mask Crusader “did not display any anger”.
Strange that he’s suddenly so passionate about the electrical fault the next day.
All in all, the Bintan hotel described Mask Crusader to be “abusive and rude”. Regardless, the hotel emphasises their desire to put this entire saga behind them.
Now that we have all three sides of the story, what’s your take? Does “Mask Crusader” live up to his name?
