After not seeing the elderly landlord for three days, a tenant returned home to a strange smell and was stumped upon realising that his landlord had already turned into a corpse.
The deceased Lin Huiquan (transliterated), aged 73, stayed in Block 214 Boon Lay while he was alive.
His tenant, Mr Deng, a 54-year-old baker, returned home at around 7pm on Saturday (13 Aug) to a strange smell pervading the flat.
Mr Deng told Shin Min Daily News that he felt that something was amiss immediately. Hence, he called the police.
He said that after seeing the landlord enter his room three days ago, he did not see him coming out again.
Allegedly, after the police went to the unit to investigate, a coroner was called over at 11pm. The body was later carried out of the room.
Mr Deng added that when he left for work that Saturday morning, he didn’t notice any strange smells. It was only when he returned home in the evening that he sensed that something was wrong.

According to the photographs, the décor in the deceased’s main bedroom was simple and crude: there was a single-person bed situated next to the window, clothes were piled all over the room, and there was a small circular table for him to put his bowl and other cutlery.
After the case occurred, there was a huge puddle of blood next to the bed frame, and it is believed that his corpse had laid there.
In response to media inquiries, the police confirmed they received a report of an unnatural death.
The spokesperson stated that a 79-year-old man was found motionless on the ground, and he was pronounced dead right then and there by the paramedics.
After a preliminary investigation, homicide has been ruled out. Investigation is still underway.
