Starting from Tuesday (5 July) onwards, the Burger & Lobster outlet in Jewel Changi Airport will be back in business as the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has lifted its suspension on the outlet.

Now, you must be asking, what did the outlet do, to warrant a suspension?
Due to numerous incidents of gastroenteritis, otherwise known as stomach flu, affecting many patrons, its license was suspended from 16 May.

Between 7 May and 15 May, 131 people suffered from gastroenteritis after they consumed food prepared by the restaurant, and five of them had to be hospitalised.
Hence, the SFA suspended its operations to protect the consumers from further health risks.
How is the place still standing with so many medical complaints? Did a whole batch of spice or bread grow fungus or something?
In any case, the SFA said that since the outlet has implemented the required measures that it stipulated, it may continue its operations.
In order to lift the suspension, the restaurant had to dispose of all ready-to-eat food, thawed food, and perishable food items.
Its premise mut be cleaned and sanitised, including its equipment and utensils. The food preparation surfaces, tables, and floors all had to be disinfected.
However, SFA will continue to monitor the restaurant closely to ensure that it adheres to the food safety requirements.
“Food safety is a joint responsibility,” SFA said, adding that good operators need to practice good food and personal hygiene at all times.

To prevent the spread of disease and protect yourself from acquiring infections, we need to practice good personal hygiene at all times.
This includes washing your hands with soap and water before eating and after going to toilet, covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then disposing the tissue in a bin immediately, and not sharing food, drinks, eating utensils, toothbrushes, and towels with others.
They’re all simple things, but they go a long way in ensuring your health.
