The Asian dude with three different jobs (Astronaut, Doctor, and Navy Lieutenant Commander) may be every Asian parent’s dream son, but they should add having both beauty and brains is every Asian parent’s dream daughter.
And that’s exactly who this article will be on. Also, I recommend you hide this news from your parents.
Carissa Yap Wins Miss Universe Singapore
22-year-old Carrisa Yap was just crowned as Singapore’s Miss Universe.
Carrisa was complimented in the Facebook post above for having “impressed the judges with her X-factor, confidence and intelligence during the 2 Q&A rounds”, which contributed to her standing out above the rest and ultimately winning the honorable title.
And indeed, in a series of shots taken from the event, her confidence could be seen shining through as she slayed that magnificent yellow evening gown.

Don’t be deceived by her elegant stride on the catwalk; she can also pack a punch. Underneath the gown lies her toned physique that wowed the judges during the athleisure wear round.
In a matching activewear set, she demonstrated that beauty is not just about the face.

Just so you know, this year’s judges were a tough crowd to impress.
The panel consists of:
- Frederick Lee, a Singapore Fashion & Couture designer
- Marion Nicole Teo, COO of EQ World Pte. Ltd. & Miss Universe Singapore 1987
- Shi Lim, Actress & Miss Universe Singapore 2013
- Jeff Chang, Fashion & Commercial Photographer
- Jessie-Khoo-Gan, General Manager Paradox Singapore Merchant Court at Clarke Quay.
Imagine being judged by two Miss Universe Singapore, and one of them (Marion) being a semi-finalist in the Miss Universe Pageant.
For winning the beauty pageant, Carissa takes home a four-night staycation, a dental makeover, a set of diamond jewelry, and expense-paid travel to the Miss Universe 2022 in the United States next January.

About the Winner
When I said she had the brains, I wasn’t kidding
In a YouTube video introducing herself as a finalist, she shared that she’s a student enrolled at the National University of Singapore studying Business.
She majors in finance and economics and hopes to use the pageant as a stepping stone to reach her aspiration of providing underbanked community access to financial services.
Prior to her enrollment, she studied at Raffles Institution and scored five distinctions for her A levels.
All the more reason not to let your parents know about Carissa Yap.

Her toned physique isn’t just for show at the pageant. She has been active in Taekwondo and is pretty good at it with that blue belt as proof.
When asked what are her biggest strength, she sees herself as someone who’s good at “remaining calm irregardless(sic) of any situation”.
Knowing what a queen she is, she’ll definitely rock the international stage and represent Singapore proudly.
