Celebrities may seem perfect and immovable on the outside, but the fact remains that beneath their trained facades…
Lie a vulnerability that’s unlike any other.
And that’s a notion perhaps best seen in the following excerpt, which concentrates on Mediacorp actress Carrie Wong’s own personal conflicts…
After the hell that broke loose in May last year.
Carrie Wong Spoke Up About IG DM Scandal & Had Wanted People to ‘Disappear from the Crowd’
You may remember Mediacorp actress Carrie Wong’s scandal with local actor Ian Fang sometime last year when their steamy text exchanges were unceremoniously leaked online.
Well, as it turns out, the dust might have settled…but the incident has taken its toll on one particular party.
According to AsiaOne, the 26-year-old model-turned-actress could not contain her emotions in a recent episode of meWATCH talkshow Hear U Out, and revealed how things got so bad that she wanted to “disappear from the crowd”.
She also paid tribute to her parents’ silent support during that time and expressed regret at what they had to go through.
“It was my mother’s birthday the day the news was published,” she said. “I wasn’t in Singapore at that time, I was filming in Indonesia, and I wondered how I could pre-empt them about the news.
“So I sent her a message the night before. I told her, ‘You’ll see some news about me tomorrow. It’s ok, it’ll blow over very soon, don’t worry about me, I’m fine. Happy birthday, I’m sorry.'”
While Carrie was prepared for all the admonishments, she was heartbroken to realise that her parents were being affected as well.
According to her, her parents were not only reprimanded by netizens but also faced hard questions from their friends.
When she eventually returned to Singapore, she shied away from returning home as she didn’t know how to face her parents.
To cope, she frequently went to her friend’s place, and only returned when her parents were asleep.
Or so she thought.
“I went to my friend’s place very often during that period, and only went home when (I thought) my parents were asleep,” she said.
“Yet, my father would be awake practically every time, sitting in the living room with the lights on and waiting for me. Once he saw me, he switched off the lights and went to bed.”
She also expressed her gratitude at how her parents never asked or said anything about what happened to her, perhaps because they were aware that she didn’t want to talk about it.
Personal Conflicts
Elsewhere, Carrie revealed that the incident has led her to open her eyes, as far as friendships are concerned.
While some offered unconditional assistance, others chose to comment about it, which led to sadness on her part.
“There were friends who didn’t bother about the news and didn’t ask me about it, and I accept them for it. Then there were others who chose to comment about it at different circumstances, saying things that hurt and saddened me.”
Carrie also expressed concerns over her career, revealing her worries over how it might have meant the end of her tenure in the entertainment industry.
“I wanted to disappear from the crowds, I didn’t want to be recognised, I wanted people to forget me, and I didn’t want to meet anyone. I was scared when I met someone, and a bit of this fear continues on even till today,”
As for her then-boyfriend, Taiwanese model Boris Lin, Carrie was reportedly vague about their current relationship. It should be noted, however, that they have since deleted their couple photos from their social media accounts.
The Change
Carrie has also begun to think more positively and is starting to count her blessings.
“After some experiences, I now want to protect the people closest to me because there’s no need for them to come under such scrutiny. I thank everyone for their concern over my love life, and I will definitely announce it if I were to get married one day. But before that, I will protect the people around me. Right now, I’m very blessed and happy.”
And she has even stated that she harbours no ill will against the person who had leaked her private messages.
“Even if I found that person today, I wouldn’t do anything.”
Well, I guess everyone makes mistakes.
It’s how they respond that truly defines their character.
With that said, we hope that this will not be the end of the road for the talented actress and that she will get back on her feet and come back stronger.
If anything, Robert Downey Jr. has exemplified how the aforementioned notion is far from being impossible.
