I know I don’t.
There, I’ve said it. Well, maybe it’s because I’m always early for my flight (Gotta admit I’m a little too early at times though). However, I’ve never paid much attention to the final boarding calls anyway.
In fact, I don’t even remember how the announcement goes. Is there like, a template for the announcement?
Starting from Monday, there will no longer be final boarding calls at Changi Airport. Airlines will also stop paging for specific passengers.
As such, only announcements pertaining to emergencies and changes will be made. I’m referring to things like lost children, flight delays and gate changes. You get the idea.
Changi Airport Group(CAG) said that the decrease in the number of announcements will help ensure that passengers pay attention when the announcements are being made.
Good decision on their part, if you ask me. It’s really annoying when the entire flight has to wait for that one person who had lost track of his/her time shopping at the airport.
“With more flights and passengers, maintaining the present frequency of announcements will mean noisier terminals and more interruptions in time to come,” said Ivan Tan, spokesperson of CAG.
“One concern is that passengers may pay less attention to the announcements made over the public address system, crowding out the more critical announcements.”
With lesser announcements, it will also create a more conducive environment for Changi Airport.
I know I would appreciate it, considering how much I enjoy my peace and quiet at the airport. Other than that, I sincerely hope that this initiative will force the habitual latecomers to come for their flight on time.
