Amidst the COVID-19 situation, individuals including celebrities are taking it upon themselves to help in any way that they can.

For instance in Singapore, people are distributing surgical masks for free out of the goodness of their hearts, while celebrities have been donating large amounts of money.

Over in Hong Kong, actor Louis Koo donated a whopping S$2million to help in the battle against the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, China.

That’s dedication right there.

But for some other celebrities, it seems that donating too much can also be a problem in the eyes of some people.

Here’s why:

The management agencies had a prior agreement that the celebrities under them would each donate 200,000 yuan (~S$40,000).

It was believed that the reason for this was to avoid comparisons.

However, Yang Zi decided to donate a more generous amount and netizens were not pleased.

Netizens accused Yang Zi of trying to outdo the other celebrities and even claimed that she was making the other stars look bad.

It drew even more flak from netizens who claimed that she leaked the photos on purpose and at such an inappropriate time.

The situation became so bad that she was allegedly forced to threaten legal action to anyone who continued with the abuse and rumours.
