A Chinese woman discovered multiple white worms crawling under her eyelids after suspected contact with her pet without proper hand hygiene.

Discovery of Eye Parasites
The woman from Zhengzhou, Henan Province, experienced redness and itching in her eyes before making the disturbing discovery. According to Xiaoxiang Morning Post yesterday (15 Jun 2025), she found white worms moving under her eyelids.
Hospital staff described the parasites as extremely active, running back and forth from left to right inside the woman’s eyes. She managed to extract two worms herself before seeking medical attention.

Doctors then helped remove the remaining worm from her eye.
Medical Explanation and Prevention
Dr. Gao Yan (name transliterated from Mandarin), deputy director of the hospital’s ophthalmology department, explained that these parasites typically live in the conjunctival sacs of small animals like cats and dogs.
She noted that some young women regularly wear contact lenses and get eyelash extensions. If they touch their pets and fail to wash their hands thoroughly before rubbing their eyes, they risk transferring parasite eggs to their eye area.
The eggs then hatch and grow inside the eyes.
Prevention focuses on good hand hygiene, proper food preparation, avoiding insect bites, and careful contact lens care to reduce the risk of transmission from pets, the environment, or food sources.
